I've blacked out twice in my life:
1) With 3 friends on vacation in Greece (we were 18
). One night went out of control when I was downing a bottle of ouzo on the beach (vodka & ouzo on the balcony earlier). Total blackout 18->morning when I woke up. I collapsed in a bush and they had to carry me home. Apparently I had followed people into their hotel rooms and partied. I had bruises and cuts all over from falling over/into stuff. No bad hangover tho.
2) Wedding with open bar with my Finnish cousins. Shit got bad when I had to drink everything they ordered and didn't like (they were 16 and hadn't been drunk before). I remember snapping out of the black out when I was puking over a reeling into some bushes in the garden. I looked up and some elderly couple were staring and shaking their heads in distaste. Shortly after I went into a taxi to the hotel and had to work so hard not to puke in the car.
I don't black out ( well it has happened a few odd times ) but
a couple times I've recorded whole evenings when there were parties and things ( digital recorder ). It's funny listening to the recordings later and see how my behavior changes and I'm trying to hit on girls subtly and stuff

And it scared me because it's all the things I keep to myself, like how I think I can pick up any chick. I was calling myself slick and shit. Ugh, I'm such an asshole. Anyways, I think it's cool that even though you go unconscious when you blackout, your unconscious mind takes over and you become the voice inside your head. Isn't that cool. |

After fireworks everything went black and I came back to reality mid-conversation with a friend chatting about turtles. I've always wondered what my face looked like when I snapped back into a conscious state of mind but neither of us can remember the fuzzy periods of that night |

when i read this thread title, my mind connects it to "Breaking up is hard to do"

What is 'blacking out'?
Under the definition I have used for years, it is the same as 'passing out,' i.e. losing consciousness and falling asleep involuntarily, but apparently everyone else seems to think the two are different.
I think in this thread it's the point at which you lose your memory for a bit.
I lose my memory every time I drink, in varying degrees.
It's a problem I've had since a particularly boisterous holiday a few years ago.
It's gotten so bad that not only do I lose my medium term memory (i.e. waking up and not remembering the night the next day), but also my short term memory, so if I drink a lot (say 20 or 30 beers), I'll spend the whole night telling the same story to the same person, over and over, because I can't remember what I said 5 minutes ago. It's fucking embarrassing, but then again I probably deserve that after drinking 20 or 30 beers.
Will has it right, blacking it out is being so beyond wasted that you continue to function with absolutely no recollection of what you've done for several hours. With my case, the last thing I remember is playing a track then my girlfriend waking me up in the bathroom. 3 hours had gone by and I don't remember a second of it. Conversations, more drinks, me djing...don't remember a thing.

It's bizarre and it's really no fun at all. What's the point of partying/drinking/whatever if you can't actually enjoy it? Nooo thanks

I never worry about me blacking out... it seems I just steal fake trees from bars.

usually i have a very good memory while drunk, but only fully lost my memory once when i was a noob at 19.. drank almost 750ml of absolut tangerine before heading into a club. all i remember from the 2-3 hours inside is falling down the stairs and walking it off laughing... and vaguely puking all the way home
next day i found out i apparently had a grind session with 3 girls at once in the middle of the dance floor.. and sloppily made out with 2 of them simultaneously
i didn't believe it at first but a few of my buddies confirmed that it happened, and that they were "pretty hot" on one account.. just glad that no pictures were taken to disprove that and that i didn't wake up toothless/in a drunk tank... said i'd never drink like that again and never did.

| Originally posted by tubularbills You all are doing it WRONG. blacking out isn't just forgetting something and then waking up in your bed, hungover and in your underwear. Blacking out is when you "wake up" and you are STILL GOING. One minute i'm slamming a corona at 730am, the next minute i'm in handcuffs and it's 230 in the pm. memory completely wiped out, but body still going. unless you've had THAT experience, then you're all just pussies when it comes to being alcoholics. |
