i don't know why i am even bothering, but i feel like discussing this so why not?
a dj does not use his voice to connect to his audience.
a vocalist that has 2 minute gaps between tracks and says nothing is not using his primary weapon to make this connection to the audience.
i don't think you can compare a dj and vocalist because of this, but if you insist; what kings of leon did would be the equivalent to a dj playing a whole record, cutting the music for 3 minutes while he picked the next record, then starting up again.
what kind of a dj set would that be?
a very shit one.
i don't need to hear all of those cliche lines that every act recycles in each city that they go to, but if you are going to play uninspired music for the love of everything holy tell me a bit about the inspiration behind it. Even if the music is great i want to know.
there are many bands that i have seen connect with an audience this way that i did not particularly enjoy, but their "convos" between tracks made the concert more "worthy" if you will...than had it not been done..
"this next song was inspired by/the background story/we are going to try something different because/something personal" , does not make me enjoy the music more, but it can give me more insight into it giving me at least some interest in what they are trying to accomplish.
the greatest example of this would be Leonard Cohen. Although i already consider him to be a musical genius, when i have seen a show with him doing a track that i find utterly gash what he says can make a track not more audibly pleasing, but better in the sense that i am more willing to see the results of his motives.
if there is no connection with the person you are trying to reach out to, you are not doing your job in any medium.
ok to all.
This sheila at work looses it every time they come on. Stops whatever she's doing, bolts to the radio (shitty old portable thing), turns it flat so that its sounds like a fart and starts dancing around.
She's a pretty bad alco though.
I liked their last CD better than the current one, the one that made them huge in the states. That said I still think they're a great band and even better live. Seems you just don't like this type of music ![]()
Airborne Toxic Event is better btw.
define this type of music. (tag it)
i'll go see anyone once. i didn't like death magnetic but i am still catching metallica this weekend, marylin manson next tuesday. I'm not a huge fan of his either, but i'll go hoping for a show. Sometimes i will be pleasantly surprised.
For instance i went to see Dream Theater and thought they were good. I didn't run out and buy their CD, but the show was very good. As someone who sees concerts pretty much anytime they are in town and i get tickets, i just think last night's was one of the worst ones that i have ever seen.![]()
I dunno...I guess they qualify as indie rock? Same with your gripe with Coldplay, they're not a shitty band in the least...Chris Martin is just an annoying cunt lol If you can get past that they're pretty good.
Keep in mind I've never seen Coldplay and I don't own any of their CDs...but their performance on SNL was cool

my gf loves clocks...so we went to see coldplay.
they played it as their first song and we left
the good part of going was seing the roots. they were beyond good live and nothing like their cds (well almost they obvioulsy did their big tracks). So much impro and it was almost like one big jam session.
i did see kings of leon once before...back then they were called 3 doors down
they still sucked.

Fuck, Coldplay suck hard. Then again, they don't even compare to names like Creed, Nickelback, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Panic At The Disco, Powderfinger et cetera. |
my friend who ended up marrying this girl, wanted me to come with him to see some band called plain white t's, that other one that sings VINDICATED or some emo shit and panic at the disco oh and the cab or something like that too. whatever. the girl he likes brought an ugly friend (for fucks sake, my luck!). anyway, we go to the fucking concert and i was drinking a beer, now the thing is that now they have beer bottles made of plastic so i fucking threw that shit to the stage when plain white t's was on and a big black dude was next to me in literally 2 seconds and escorted me out of the place. all the fucking emo kids were booing me. i'm 25, they're 10 or something i dont know. it felt good though. i came back 30 mins later and saw panic at the disco and was surprised because even though i think they're all fags, the energy they bring on stage kept me awake.
proof that i will go see anything.
my gf just texted me saying that we have to go to tiesto october 2nd because there is a guest chef cooking at the venue that night.
proof what?
