Drugs are a way to alter your state of mind... Just like any other enjoyable activity - sport, dancing, listening to music, having sex etc.. If you look at them that way there is no problem with consuming them responsibly. If you're an immature fuckwit that gets high/drunk to excess, to the point where it is no longer enjoyable just to show your bravado, fit in with your friends or have more confidence with women then your immaturity is the real problem, not the drugs.

+1 The times I've taken stuff wasn't to escape reality or run from anything- smoked a little weed with friends to have some laughs, ate mushrooms to open my mind up and experience something new and different, and so on.
