Echo, lol, I was just thinking. "Wow, that Cubase 4 PC release on audionews.ru just got released a few weeks or so ago... and now we have TiTs asking for help?"

Anyway, I won't pass judgment that quick on you dude, double check your connections and setup. And if you don't own Cubase 4/5, do yourself a favor and enslave yourself to Steinberg like the rest of us. Misery loves company.

EDIT: Oh you were joking

I know I know... I was just breaking balls... you going to upgrade to Cubase 5?

Also,

Consider these options:

1. Uncheck the box that says "release ASIO drivers when in background"

2. Open up your windows sound control panel and stop it from using your M-Audio sound card. Sounds harsh, I know, but I've learned that your audio interface should only be used with your DAW (on PCs). Windows does a horrible job with firewire audio interfaces (I have a MOTU 8pre, 828mkII and UltraLite) and they all fuck up when I'm trying to use them as windows sound devices. ---- Let Windows be the God of your on-board sound card, and NOTHING else.

3. Make sure your computer's firewire card drivers are up to date!

3.a. Do you have XP Service Pack 3? If you do... you need to manually update your firewire drivers to an older version. Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decisded to fuX0r with the firewire protocols and crippled lots of hardware in the process. Downgrading to an older driver is the only way to fix things. Google it.

4. As other's have said, if you're not using VST System link, turn it off.

^--- my 4.5 cents

5. Drink more wine (like me)

I recently got a new HDD and only then bought C5. I haven't tested if my PreSonus Firebox works yet with my XP SP3. Shit.

I think it is a problem with the configuration of the midi controller. Soundmagus helped me a ton yesterday and was able to get sound, but I am not able to control with the keyboard. Maybe #4 could be the reason? It's a USB device though so maybe not.

Old question, but I think I was able to fix the problem. I've since sold the Novation controller and got an Oxygen 49. Anyway, I installed the controller and then reinstalled Cubase. Now I was able to get it to work using the computer's soundcard. I haven't tried it with the other soundcards, but I'm glad that it works now.
