FUCKIN TOUR!

I played around with the settings, created a custom profile, let's see how this works...

That speaker icon on my phone is SOUNDS not PROFILES.. but at the bottom there is "add new profile"... but why would I want to do that? Only I use my phone...

In my ringtone/alerts settings under Instant Msgs >> Blackberry Messenger Groups: I clicked SILENT, tested it, it works. But when a group member posts, I get a ding still... and it's not even the ding effect that is selected in the Blackberry Msgr Groups that I put on SILENCE... it's a horrible sound that scares the crap out of me when it goes off.

SOUNDS/PROFILES...same thing, it's either or dependng on the device, software and carrier. Sorry... my bad!

Now, as for sounds and stuff... I never have my phone make sounds anyways, always in my pocket, so it's either set to LOUD for the odd rare time it's out of pocket, vibrate, or not I created my own profile. It's actually better, took me like 10 mins... I coudl set the vibration for all my alerts so I can tell which one it is, like morse code lol. 1 short vibratio is e-mail, 2 short vibrations is facebook, 1 medium vibration is MSN, 1 long vibration is BBIM, etc etc... Seems the group issue worked tho.

I'm on my way into work shortly, going to ask the analysts as soon as I get there!

PS - What sound do you have it set to? The one that scurrs you?

OK, so is my solution to create a profile then? Do i need to 'log in' every time? like when i re boot my phone? or is it logged in til i log out?

Also, i dont know what sound it is.. because the place where i edit group bbm alerts is set on a completely diff sound (which the volume level is set on "silent" anyways) whhhhhhhhhhich clearly is wrong or not working

Ok, so I asked the analysts.... and here is the reason Jay can do it, but we can't... we're runnign device software 4.7, which is only on the Tour and the Storm (And some European devices).

So on 4.7, you cannot edit any of the preloaded soundprofiles (ie. loud, quiet, vibrate etc.) You can only edit the NORMAL profile.

So, if you're using the NORMAL profile, you can edit it to not get notified for new messages in the group with a sound or vibration by doing this.
-Select NORMAL as your profile
-Go to Profiles/Sounds, then go to SET RING TONES/ALERTS
-Go to Instant Messages
-BlackBerry Messenger Groups
-----RING TONE - Can be whatever
-----VOLUME - Silent
-----LED - On
-----VIBRATION - Off
-----NOTIFY ME ON CALLS - No
-Exit and Save...

Should be good for v4.7 if you're using the NORMAL profile, you won't get vibration or sound alerts for any Group messages or alerts

Other than that, (and recomended) is to spend the time to create your own profile so you can control what all the alerts will be ie. phone calls, sms, mms, BBIM messages, emails, applications (twitter, facebook, etc)

And once set, that profile will be saved and default if you power down your phone and reboot, or hard reset as well.... by loggin in and out? i don't know what you mean, but if you mean join/unjoin the group, it will be fine.

EDIT - Just checked with a power off, and a full pull battery hard reset. Your profile remains default. So once you create and choose it, you're golden! I got two profiles rockin now, WORK and OUT.. the work one is ALL vibrations and silent for sounds, OUT will make sounds for certain things so I can hear it if i'm out, in the car, at friends house etc...

Yeah. Failed. Just tested it.

The error message says "the barcode is either expired or has been used by someone else"
