in japan it's rude to let someone pour their own drink. i love that.
Well...the fine details actually don't really matter for this paper. The focus is more about decisions I would make as a nurse that reflect integration of transcultural nursing theory; the scenario itself is not important or worth any marks.

Is it rude to accept medical treatment upon first offer in Japan, too? That would make for a good paper.

This little group of mexican people called the tzotzil have a weird system where some kinds of illness are thought of as being either 'warm' or 'cold', and they're to be treated with a form of medicine bearing the appropriate symbolism of temperature.
i would never drink anything i didn't want to...especially when it comes to liquor. not everyone likes hard booze and it's rude to force someone to drink it.
food is a different story though, i'll eat anything anyone prepares for me.
sorry to hijack jenny's thread but one time at an office xmas party, my former boss was wasted and "making" us all do shots...one after the other, it was getting ridiculous and he was clearly not having it (us saying, "no more"). so i just started going along with everything and pretending to take my shots and dumping them in the garbage. lol the whole time laughing inside thinking, "fuck u, waste your money if you want to, you drunken bully asshole"
gud storie slylee

Jenny there is this one tribe deep in the amazon jungle of Peru and Brazil called the "ashaninkas" a friend of mine went to work there as part of his medicine program for 3 months and told me that the guys had "cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa) " for almost everything , and that they where very reluctant on taking pills and tablets orally .
So a lot of times the medicine had to be administered through an IV.
hope this helps
^ bingo jenny!
Yeah that's a good example for sure.
I think I'm just going to do the one I posted though, lol. Everyone's input is appreciated though.

(at both of you)
Not exactly, "cultural" but didn't John Travolta's kid die because they refused medical treatment for his kid because of some Scientology bullshit?
Wen is this due? My brother is in med school and because of the strong percentage of indigenous people that live in Guatemala and have weird beliefs he actually took a whole class dedicated to dealing with people's culture and religious beliefs when treating them. Let me know what is it exactly that you'd be interested in and I'll get him to reply in this thread or get in touch with you.
Not sure, but it seems no one mentionning muslims having issues with women treating men and vice-versa (most likely the latter).
So many cultures you could choose from aboriginal is quite complex to begin with and not sure you would have extensive literature on it like we do in oz. Why don't you just choose any religion they all have their limitations.
The one example that comes to mind is a buddhist man died and the family wanted to keep his body there for 8 or so hours so the monks could do their rituals ect. If you work in a hospital you will know they do not allow such things as bums in beds = money. In the end they let the patient who died stay for the time the family requested but it wasn't met with open arms
Speaking of death also jews & muslims i think like to bury the deceased within 24hrs of them passing, which makes it quite complex when autopsies are involved.
