Creator was my fave Aria Resident...
Most memorable night was Sven Vath's marathon set, he was playing so dark, chicks were crying and shit, he was KNACKERED! I left terrified.

yup, missing some solid techno bookings for sure like Umek with Valentino on the same night back in 2003, Technasia, the Halloween night triple headliners, Richie and Sven when they puked up their champagne....

I'd love to see a list compiled for the Sona bookings (v1.0)

Was the music any good at least?

Music was good if you could tolerate being inside the main room. Trust me when I say it wasnt like any other night!

Even tho I'm a big prog fan now, the track list they played is sooooooooooo good. I'm jealous that I was way too young to attend those parties . I would kill to see Tiesto/Armin/Ferry 8-9 years ago. Their sets were unbelievable.

Pretty sure if it reopened it would suck. Something about the time that made it good I think. My age probably had something to do with it as well.

if they kept up that booking level, it could train other younger people though, keep the good scene alive

First time I saw Tiesto he was Paul Oakenfold's 'guest dj' at the 514 Productions party in the Molsen Center called Oasis, in 2000 I think. good times!

And the last time I saw Tiesto was the first time he played Aria and the place was disgustingly paaaaacked, sounds like that Ferry night.
I went with a few people that night who were so put off by it that they vowed never to go back to the club again (and they didn't).

Between Aria and their Big DJ Small Club series, I would've started smoking if it meant keeping these going.

And I hate smoking.

Any of you remeber how many hours each dj played?
Thanks a million Nacht, just by reading the reviews and the track lists I'm getting goosebumps and realizing how downhill Trance has gotten. Sadly it is what it is.

Quoting malek

if there's one thing that Aria can do ASAP, is fix the air temprature problem, either by upgrading the cooling system or opening some doors to let air flow. At one point I couldn't take it no more, I just left and slept in the car for a good 2h. So I missed the end of Tiesto and beginning of armin.

About the sound cutting, 3 words: crazy tiesto fan (or bitch). This girl jumps over the speakers on the left side and storms the booth and we were like wtf were she came from?!!? Then security takes her outside of the booth. She goes around to the right side, try jumping to come inside the booth, but in doing so trips and unplugs wires and shit... sound cuts

She doesn't quit! I come in the booth and she tries to come right behind me, I see her and say: "stay the fuck out" pushing her ouside she had this surprised face like saying "what did I do?" hehehehe

Tiesto was a little pissed but took it like a pro, he said jokingly "the sound system isn't tiesto proof" hahaha

to the girl: if you read this, go easy on the candy next time

there used to be a montreal flyers site that had flyers from all the afterhours. anyone know what happened to that site and if theres something similar elsewhere ?

maybe i am blind, but i did not notice the speedy j night.

it wasn't packed, but by far the best musical experience at this club. I miss it, and it is safe to say no one will put the same amount of effort in booking in mtl anymore.

rightfully so, as much as i would love it, it was not really profitable was it?

I never understood how Aria was loosing money in the beginning? To me the place was packed every weekend! Maybe the trick is to book lesser known but extraordinary artists on special occasions. Those nights tend to attract people no matter who the DJ is.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Oct-30-2009 22:36:

i don't know about today, but back then the big techno guys that they booked had very very heavy fees.

never forget that montreal is the city that everyone goes out for the show but no one wants to pay. Getting glist at aria was way easier than at any other afterhour joint then and since.

also, i saw another pair of 1200's if you don't buy mekroons

Posted by Ravemontreal on Oct-30-2009 22:43:

Well Aria sometimes had 2, 3 big names in one single night. They paid those DJs well, and it was a pretty big machine to feed. You rarely had DJ under 5k$ + plane and accomodations.

With no alcohol sales, the break even was very high.

Today, the same DJs come here for 50% or more less. The game has changed.

Posted by Dj Nacht on Oct-30-2009 22:45:

Yeah G-list at Aria was easy but you still needed to be closely connected, unlike most clubs. Whats the deal? Djs are paid 50% less now? for realz?

Posted by Schadenfreude on Oct-30-2009 22:56:

and btw when i said no one will book like them ever again, i was only referencing afterhours clubs.

There are a few good promotions that still book well imo...but there are circumstances that allow them to do so unlike circus or stereo (no redlite does not deserve mention..oh shit i just did).

lousi mentionned benson and hedges....without the sponsorships it is even harder...not to mention that afterhours are not as " a la mode" as they used to be.

that being said, without aria, we would not have heard so much good detroit.

i might hate tiesto...but the misstress b (for bitch)/tiestor/preach night was pretty epic as well.

Sasha & Steve Porter @ ARIA :: Saturday June 11th 2005

Here's one that I didn't see on the list, was there for it.

Apparently Sasha wasn't feeling too up to par for that one too

Posted by Pizerz on Nov-04-2009 19:20:

If anyone can help me out on this... the Night I will never forget was (I think) it was FunKenLouis Starting out, followed by Junkie XL (On the opposite end of the dance floor) Followed by Mauro Picotto... And there was supposed to be another DJ playing after him (not sure who it was) but he never ended up getting on... Cause Mauro played for 6 or 7 hours... Freaking Godly....

Pretty sure it was 2007...
