We both know there is nothing that could be done for the guy with a hole in his head. If I have a tip on who the killer is, I would definitely get on the bat phone. Theresa is talking about hiding under her blanket until the bad men go away. My previous posts are not so much about this video but the larger issue of bystanders not doing anything when they have an opportunity to help others.

Unfortunately, that's a human tendency (and Theresa probably knows that, being a psychology student). I reckon the explanation for this kind of reaction should be taught to more and more people, so we could fight this tendency when the situation came.

'Diffusion of responsibility', I think it's called. People won't act to help, thinking that others will do it instead.

Exactly. Or, often times, they'll seek social approval. Because no one else is helping, they think it's not a situation they should interfere with.

Anybody can make an anonymous tip to the police about a killing, you'd be helping the cause. Theresa is wrong in this case.

Again, what can they do? The absolute most they could do is contact the authorities, absolutely nobody is going to challenge someone with a gun unless they actually have a gun on their person. There was actually a case several months back where a man killed another armed man who was trying to rob a McDonalds. While that may be a little excessive, in this case it would be pretty acceptable.

Never said it was right... just saying it's pretty natural not to do anything.
