| Originally posted by CortexBomb Unfortunately, I think the gist of the idea would be that the RIAA wouldn't care where you initially got the files, only that you were sharing them. I agree that proving if you own the music on your HD or not is almost impossible without a search warrant and other extreme measures... (which'd be much more trouble then they'd be worth...) the problem is that the recording industry is balls out crazy about stamping out piracy while failing to realize that it's here to stay. The digital revolution and the ability of people to swap music is not going to be even minorly slowed by any of this...even without P2P (which simply isn't going to be killed, ever IMHO) people could still swap hand burned CD's amongst each other and what the hell is the government going to try and do about that? To my mind the problem isn't piracy, it's the ridiculous price of music...if CD's cost $5 a piece like they should you wouldn't have people d/ling everything. I know I still buy the actual vinyl or CD's when they're reasonably costed and released domestically (since importing stuff costs waaay too much dinero) but I don't blame people who refuse to give the majors penny numero uno. The industry needs to wake the fuck up and realize that it's created it's own problems and that the only answer is reducing costs...if they did I wouldn't be surprised to see sales (in dollars) to not only stay put, but increase significantly... |

Imports are even more higher! In fact, they're 2.5 TIMES higher! I see those for about $30 - $40! I understand import costs but, who's going to pay $40 for a CD that's only 45 minutes long and there's only ONE TO THREE songs on it that are actually good! I don't care about the RIAA suing me because they never will know who I am!!! |
what are you complaining about?
CD's in Holland are 22 thats 22$
Germany a bit cheaper but still...

but regular cds r like $16-20...I'm sure if cds went down to $5 their sales would increase significantly and they would be able to go diamond...what I hate is that it's always the ppl with millions of dollars complaining...they make more money off 1 album than i would in a lifetime, so i don't see what's so bad about that!
they closed napster,i downloaded from kazza then AG (because kazza is dog wank), AG got shut down, now i download from the dc hub, by the time they close kazza & dc hub, there will be about another 20 one's too download off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they will never win, iam also betting that the people that run the RIAA probely download mp3'z as much as anyone else does!!!!!!!!!!!
still they will never learn, they will never win and they will kiss my sweaty never washed ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, its impossible because its a) an invasion of privacy and b) there arent laws strictly governing it. Not to mention there are SO many people who trade.
That said, im somewhat of a target because last month i used 23 gigs down and 18 gigs up of mp3s and movies, and my cable company only likes me using less than 6gigs down and 2 up. Ah well, they sent me a nasty letter.
Fuck the riaa.
lol, what next, crackdowns on bootlegged tapes
Yea, I read this yesterday too
This is sooo stupid, what are they going to sue millions of people?
I got a question, Do we really need the RIAA? what is its purpose? Why don't we just get rid of the RIAA? no1 likes em so why do we need them?
"We" actually don't need them.
The artist, producers and fat, lazy executives form the RIAA to prevent loss of money.
In one hand I do understand why the RIAA was form, since the music that artists and producers worked on soo hard are given out freely. My main concern is what goes thru these RIAA executives minds when they think of a way to solve the problem? Some of these idea and solutions they have, have the thoght process of a monkey scratching its ass.
"Let's sue EVERYONE that has an illegal mp3!" <---WTF? Who in their right mind would of thought to sue every person that has an illegal mp3.
I think that the music industry is declining and they are grasping for solutions and are given ideas from people that have lost touch with the real world. or reality. I totally agree in supporting an artist I like, but would give a rats ass for those that I don't CHOSE to listen to. I'm just waiting for the RIAA's next idea:
Sue the INTERNET! <---ahhahaha
FUCK THE RIAA I FUCKING HATE EM EM THEY CAN GO 2 HELL
I don't think this will affect us much.. the RIAA is way more concerned with cash-cow pop music than electronica. I doubt many electonic music labels are even members of the RIAA, since it costs a label quite a bit to be part of the organization.
I honestly dont understand how artists can lose money if people download their stuff. Its like this:
Scene 1: The person downloads the song, likes it, buys the retail version.
Moral: This boosts the artists sales, and spreads his material to people who never heard him before (who might later decide to buy his stuff and further boost his sales). Whats wrong with that?
Scene 2: The person downloads the song, hates it, doesnt buy the retail version.
Moral: Is the artist mad because all his sales come from people who buy his stuff and end up not liking it?
Scene 3: The person downloads the song, likes it, but doesnt buy anything anyway.
Moral: Like I said, the person doesnt buy anything period. Getting rid of mp3s wont really force him to buy anything.
There you have it. Why cant everybody see things my way?
Seriously though, why dont all these people focus on local shootings etc. instead? Just yesterday there was an airport shooting in LA! Sheez.

RIAA needs to get into the pr0n business then
there's more money in that
even if they tried to sue some of the individuals... there are so many, they'd probably start to lose money in lawyer fees, i think they should just give up... this is one case record companies will never win... a few of the giant record companies against millions??
Maybe they should sue the evil capitalist bastards who make us pay so much money for music, first

I'm completely agreed on your view though, if costs were reasonable piracy wouldn't be an issue...I know here in the States I think it's pretty bad but it's nowhere *near* as horrid as it is in Canada or Europe..I know I was browsing CD's in Canada last week and GU discs were over $30 (plus the ever lovable Grab and Steal Tax...) which is way over the top IMO...it's not a bad deal if you're coming into the country with american cash but for people who have to live with the costs that high on a day to day basis it's more than a little unappealing. |

if CDs were even $10 US instead of the usual $16, I would buy them. $16 is a lot of money for a CD that I don't even know if I will like. THe past cds I have bought have been disappointments, and I had to pay $16+ for them.

Erm instead of laughing, I'd be worried about stuff like this:
