It's a speaker. That's all the is to it. It takes electricity and converts it to sound for you to hear when you play a cd or mp3 download. But if you call it something pompous and important-sounding you can charge people more And say

Thanks a lot Ry, I'm in the process of repositioning my room / studio to make things more acoustically accurate. I'm still in the planning stage though so this helped.
