I started reading in 99/00 because of the movie and wanted to understand more so logically i picked up the book so i could go at my own pace, they were some of the first books i read when i was still learning English. Unlike most i didn't have the luxury of learning English from birth and had to when my family came to America. If they movies didn't inspire readers then how come the Clone Wars novel series has an ever expanding section just for it in major chain book stores?

Wow that guy really reamed Phantom Menace

My only complaint was that he was comparing the entire original trilogy to the one movie as opposed to comparing both trilogies to each other. Granted, all his points would've still been valid...maybe even moreso. But, damn, harsh. Best part of the entire series is the last 30 seconds of part 2. George Lucas is an asshole.

How does that make no sense, the movie comes out and children and young adults enjoy it, the books are readily available soon after, parents of the children buy the books for them. The next movie comes out and the process repeats.

I'd been hearing about this for a while now and finally got around to watching it today. Damn good stuff. My only beef is that he keeps giving Lucas a bunch of shit about how it feels like it's written for children. Lucas has said it himself that they are kids movies. Even the originals. When you take that into consideration, the abominations that are the prequels make complete sense.

He's not berating Lucas for making kids films, he's berating Lucas for making kids films with stupidly complex plots. As he points out, having straightforward plots and clear heroes and villains is not necessary in a film for adults, as many great film-makers have shown, but kids films should keep it simple, easily understandable and easily digestible. That's why Lucas' bullshit "bold aesthetic decision" excuse for his fucked-up storytelling in the last clip doesn't wash.

what kid doesn't like intergalactic senate scenes

The star trek reviews are pretty damn funny as well
