Atlanta scene isn't dead, it's just changed. Maybe you should change with it, or stay stuck wishing it was better

Sure there could be better music and more events, but I'm trying my best to bring music I love to this city, between Heat and Atlanta Dubstep

I'll keep my opinions on djs who invest more time into hair product and corduroy v-neck shirts than actual music to myself. Don't complain about Atlanta not being the same as a decade ago when really you just want to hear decade-old dance music.

Dilo! Igloo records label owner in fact everyone we brought this year was a label owner, which might say something about who we aim to get in underground market (or there are too many labels )

Another aspect some people need to take into consideration is the venue scarcity. For large shows, Opera, the Masquerade and very rarely...Center Stage...are pretty much your options. Understand that Opera will always be an image-driven VIP room and Masquerade is a menage-a-genre of music. Besides Filter, your weekend shows are starting to show up in bars and confined dance floor areas. Some people are afraid of new places and some people will go anywhere to hear the music they like. Up to you....

The last handful of shows I've been to have been d&b and dubstep and I think I've enjoyed them considerably more than the trance/house shows I've seen lately. It's the best way to enjoy music without the generic clubbing crowd

So I guess every other DJ has to make a song with Akon to be "cool" now?

"Cool" - yes.
"Good" - no.

Seems like the only decent club left now is Filter. I liked Dreamz a lot but I can see that place being expensive to book and I refuse to go to Opera. I miss Wetbar and Bazaar ;(

Posted by mikebradley on Jan-04-2010 16:57:

Haven't heard or seen much going on at Filter these days.

Posted by CyclonesWorld on Jan-04-2010 21:31:

Maybe because it's so fucking cold outside nobody wants to do anything. Did they ever get the LED ceiling in?

Posted by inferno on Jan-04-2010 21:34:

No led ceiling

Maybe someone here can answer this. I always loved the Tabernacle as a venue; how come there aren't any more electronic events there?

Posted by Caution_BiPolar on Jan-11-2010 00:09:

I just wish we had a consistent venue. A place where we could always go and hear good music, whether by local DJ's, big name DJ's, whatever. It's becoming too big of a hassle to have to search and plan for any decent night out.

Wasn't it "in Atlanta" while Farina was?

There are many reasons if you speculate (i am not positive since I have not thrown a party at the tabernacle or ever talked to anyone who has):

1. Up front reservation cost
2. Ticketmaster venue so all tickets comes with those crazy ticketmaster fees.
3. Labor is usually done by in house people at additional cost
4. The venue gets to keep all of the bar profit
5. Holds 2400 people and with that most DJ's rate goes up so with the above items it becomes less profitable than throwing something at Opera.

Lets face it, if you were going to throw a party you would want to make more money for less hassle and utilizing a venue like Opera offers just that.

I'm wondering if people will make the connection between low attendence numbers and "not seeing much going on at Filter these days."

Everyone wanted it - no one supported it. I just hope it isn't too late. But the unfortunate truth is what everyone wants on a forum and what is actually successful are two entirely different things. I played there like every Friday (upstairs) for two months or so and how many of you did I see there?

I went!

Maybe i'm just out of the loop but theirs a lot of good disco house being released but i haven't heard anyone play it live. Apparently that style is getting pretty popular in places like LA but the closest i've heard is deep house at bars and other smaller venue's.

I mean if an Indie Dance night such as Fuck Yesss can get so popular then why not a Nu Disco night?

Fuck Yesss is more that hipster electro stuff...pretty sure thats not what you have in mind.

I'm guessing the reason it got so big has more to do with the image/target audience than the music itself however.

I just want to get drunk and have my picture taken over and over.

Right?

Chill out people, the Atlanta scene is fine. Do some research, you'll see a lot of the big names are overseas doing tours at the moment. There is still plenty of local shit going on. Go support local dj's and stfu plz, k thnx.
