that is the most absurd thing i've ever heard. procreation in itself is a selfish act. people who birth several kids in this day and age are typically the ones who have nothing else in their life. the kid becomes something to live for, as well as an attachment to another person.

if you want to look at it in sociological terms, having more than 2 kids per family is a selfish act. the planet is overpopulated, there aren't enough resources for every family that wants 3+ kids to just have them. part of the reason why there's starving kids in africa is because the average woman there has 8 of them and no means to feed any of them.

I think people that say that are full of shit and more than likely hypocrites. These are usually the same people that end up having 6 kids and live on the social security benefits they receive for those kids.

What I do think is selfish is when someone who doesn't want kids has them to please other people & then the kids end up neglected or abused.

If you don't want them for what ever reason then do not have them! Does this make the person selfish or immature? Absolutely not!

Children don't ruin your life, they change it. Whether it's for the better or worse is completely up to you.

Someone please send the above memo to the Africans and Muslims. Africa has 42 of the top 52 spots in fertility rate, between 5.5 and 7.5 children born per woman. Gaza's current birth rate: 5.3 children per woman. Afghanistan: 6.53. Yemen: 6.32.

United States: 2.05. Canada: 1.58. Most of Europe about 1.5. By the time the Western world is overrun, I'll be dead... thank god.

I'm not sure what else encompasses the "Western World", but they're not really under-represented, nor do I think they'll be a minority any time soon... Europe is insanely populous, even if the population is now decreasing. Besides, the Latin American population is also growing... even though we're just in the periphery of the so-called West.

The17sss, roughly 10% of France is Muslim, and that's the country with the greatest Islamic presnce in Europe... that's hardly enough to take a whole country. Comparatively speaking, their chances were way higher back in the Middle Ages, before the Reconquista.

Not that there's a problem with what you're saying. Europeans spread all over the world in the past few centuries, it's about time Europe became a more diversified continent too!

In the absence of objective measures of selfishness, immaturity, or pointlessness it seems to me that statement is a mere opinion. Accordingly, it is inappropriate to discuss it in terms of being true or false.

It might be amusing to examine the factual and logical errors apparent in the process by which the opinion had been reached in some particular case, but aside from that I'm not sure what there is to discuss on the matter...

For some, not wanting kids may be selfish (not wanting to give their own time and effort to support the life of another), and for others it's unselfish (not wanting to bring a life into an overpopulated/shitty/doomed world, wanting to adopt rather than have natural kids etc.). In either case, I don't think it's immature at all. If someone can recognize that they are too selfish to take care of another human being, that IMO is far more mature than most of the fools out there who procreate simply because they think that's what they are supposed to do.

As for life being pointless? I disagree. It isn't the mass wide accepted "point to life", but people without kids can enjoy very different lives of travel, learning, helping others etc. and I don't think that's pointless.

Wait, you mean there's no culture clash now? lol

I don't see how the clash could increase any more. The more the ethnic minorities already there integrate the less of a clash there will be regardless of numbers of people.

spot on mate. There are so many tensions here these days, Islamaphobia seems to be the norm, mostly from people who see the extremeists and think that speaks for everyone. When they then treat all muslims (or whatever faith) as extremeists, the more likely they are to behave like them in response. Most cultures though just don't integrate which is where something like canada does well in comparison, many of the totas etc come from all over and seem to mostly get on. I like to hate all sides equally for being idiots when they play to the stereotypes.

I have no issues with people that don't want kids. I think if you don't want to have kids then you shouldn't, end of story. It ensures that unwanted kids are not brought into the world and in some small way helps to aliviate the problem of overpopulation.

Personally though, I see no point in my own life without kids. One can only do so much before they get bored. Having kids not only extends my line but it gives me the ultimate accomplishment in life to raise them and watch them grow into adulthood.

Even if I was unable to have kids, I would still adopt some.
