Well, right now it is just music. As far as the net goes, I am just trying to limit myself so I can have time for other things.

I have thought for a long time that music sort of deranges me. I find that when I go without it I am less irritable, less prone to mood swings, and able to think more clearly. So I have stopped listening to it, at least for now.

Anyone else experience this?

100%.
But it also free's me and makes me more myself.

What other things? What are your current long term goals?

Yeah, but you tried to give it up completely a couple of times. I've never heard of someone giving up an entire art form in an attempt at self-betterment. If I didn't know you better, I'd say you were like those 1950s fear-mongerers who thought TV corrupted children.

I kind of ditched porn for a couple of hours once because I wanted to be a better person...

... I failed

music definitely levels me out, emotionally. the only time it frustrates me is if i'm listening to the wrong kind of music to fit my mood.

Mostly reading and getting a job.

I have no long-term goals really.

I doubt that I will never listen to music again, it is mostly a matter of significantly re-organizing my activities and priorities.

If this keeps up, I am so picking you in my death pool this year. I missed out once, not going to happen again.

Hahaha, what? I am actually feeling better than I have in a long time, so that would be a crappy bet.

Bi-polar?

Though there is definitely something to be said about how music is practically required competence anymore - this is a relatively new thing amongst humans - why abstain from certain emotions? Do you not see their worth?

I must agree, I am a slightly different creature depending on what I have been listening to, so I guess you could say that I use music as a conditional stimulant, but if anything I feel rather liberated by this, not like it's causing me to feel a certain way, but that it's merely retracted everything holding me back from my feeling how I really want to.

But I, too, go through rather extensive periods of silence as conditioning as well, don't get me wrong. I guess I kind of 'burn out' on sounds, and would rather everything be still and quiet just to blow all of the bad crap out of my head. But this happens maybe once every 2 years or so, and never because of anything in specific happening (so far as I can tell at least).

But it always comes back, I never have to force it. I actually think I like music more after those little periods.

I can definitely see how you could become burnt out on dance music though. Holy shit is it an inspid form of music in too large of doses.

Hah, now that you mention it, music makes me asexually hyperactive!

Countless times I was talking to a random hot girl and excused myself when someone dropped a tune I liked. Perhaps the girls didn't mind, at least they knew I wasn't all over them
