Fair enough, and where does a sizeable proportion of their population come from? West Africa. Even though immigrants from Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark also populated the Caribbean, and there are quite a few "West Indies", all of which are related to a particular European country, you don't really see a fair-skinned rowdy guy among them, do you?

I believe it was originally intended to be about cricket, no problem there, but it says a wee bit more than that, you like it (which I don't believe you do) or not.

Its ridiculous to argue that there was some intent on behalf of KFC to make a racist advertisement. It isn�t rational to argue that a business would deliberately go out of their way to lose themselves money, on either a canned ad or poor public relations.

So what? When I think of the racial makeup of the windies, I think of black people. why should KFC be any different? The ad merely represents what your typical windie cricket fan looks like.

I'm not saying that was done on purpose but, even when Americans say it is racist, you can clearly understand why. Did you really need someone to point out to you why it might be the case?

If I said it represented the male oppression over the female body, and went on a Freudian diatribe, your point would be even more valid: people will see whatever they want to see. However, this is part of a very popular discourse in the US, and it's impossible to avoid comparisons. That being said, I don't think KFC made a racist advert, it just turned out to be the case once people looked at it from another perspective. For example:

I'm not saying that advert is analogous to smacking a woman up, sorry for not making my intentions clear. What I mean is that you can't step out of your culture, so to speak, when you see facts about other peoples, so you can't help it. Not being able to get them is not really much different from their inability to understand you.

And having another advert would really straighten things out. It's a shame there isn't one

Really that's just bringing the discussion into the issue of ethics. Does every culture have the same, universal ethics? Who decides what's wrong for everybody? Most people believe in the basic shit: don't kill, don't steal, etc, but when you get into issues of sexism and racism and stuff the lines blur strongly when you go into different cultures.

Or something. I'm on lot's of xanax right now so woo!
