I'm pretty sure that everybody knows that every news show/station/entity/whathaveyou is biased in their own way(s).

Also, Stewart & Colbert may primarily exist for satire's sake, but that doesn't mean that they're incapable of raising genuine questions and touching on poignant issues. Stewart has actually produced some of the best interviews I've seen.

Indeed, thats why it's so funny that they are the best source for actual news on TV in this country.

they also (admittedly) edit footage to a degree regular news organizations are not allowed to for ethical reasons, because they aren't an official news organization. The lines are much more blurred and part of the problem IMO when people don't know that and regard those shows as "the news".

And i don't mean to detract from stewart... he does do some great interviews. But he'll be the first to tell you his show isn't news.

Posted by Clovis on Jan-18-2010 02:13:

Yeah, it isn't news at all really, but in terms of commentary they beat all the networks easily.

haha... definitely. network talking heads suck.

I think that the writers of the Daily Show realized a few years back that many of their viewers were taking it as their only news source, so they made a specific effort to become more credible. John Stewart is exemplary in his ability to interview someone who he completely disagrees with and yet maintains a respectful tone, and keeps the discussion about the issues, not emotion.

The interviews aren't extended. After the interaction has taken place, the editing department trims it down for the show, but the full interview is usually put on the site. I don't know if they have a set length they try to keep it to, or if they just let it run its course.

When he travels, John Stewart checks into hotels under the name Stewart Johnson. I was behind him in line at a Hilton once, and had to put some effort into to containing my laughter.

Lol. Standardized test scores are as much of a indication of your intelligence as being able to successfully boil water is of your your cooking ability.

Jon Stewart is as much a credible news outlet as Fucks news, the only difference is, he knows he's a joke, unlike the scared people watching fucks. The other difference is that Stewart has integrity even though he doesn't take himself seriously while fucks news has no integrity but thinks it's the all providing oracle.

you dont need other programs when you have jim.

Yeah, I know I was just illustrating a point. I'm not actually suggesting John Stewart and Shepard Smith both take the Wechsler test and compare scores afterwards.

Scared people watching Fox? lol. I would actually like you to show me one example of Fox purposely distorting or editing the news in a way that is unethical or backs up your lack of integrity claim. I'm not talking about pundit opinion shows, I'm talking about the news.

One can't say the same about the left wing hack machine MSNBC, after they PURPOSELY edited this video of a black guy holding a gun at an Obama protest, cropping out his head and arms so he'd be assumed to be white, and go on to say "having this kind of stuff at rallys has racial overtones" and "it's troubling with a man of color in the White House." Watch for yourself.

Here's an actual photo of the guy. Show me one example of Fox doing this shit.

Funny how many times Ive seen teabaggers on other political threads post that same MSNBC clip followed with that pic of the black dude, so predictable.

Faux news would need at least ten page thread illistrating how incredibly fucked in the head they are.

Whenever a repuke gets into trouble and has a press conference the teabaggers disguised as news anchors swap the (R) next to their names with D's, that's one of their many dirty litstle tricks they pull.

They also inflate those teabagger rallies, hannity was caught with his pants down showing an old clip of all those losers and had to opologize on his next show.

Faux is garbage, and so are teabaggers

It's really sad and depressing that our comedians are the ones asking the most important questions. Stewart is very intelligent and definitely more worth watching then any other commentator on television. Fox "News" is simply a joke.

That said, the fact that you're defending Fox News as better than the rest of them and completely innocent of any wrongdoing is utterly retarded and absolutely fucking absurd. You're, sir, are an imbecile in the finest sense of the word.

One short example, looks like footage from actual "news" and not from pundits.

quote:
Fox News displays old campaign footage to claim Palin is getting huge crowds at her book signings. (Updated) This afternoon, Fox News host Gregg Jarrett proudly announced that Sarah Palin is continuing to draw huge crowds while shes promoting her brand new book. Take a look at these are some of the pictures just coming into us. But the pictures that the network chose to display on-air appeared to be old file footage of Palin rallies from the 2008 presidential campaign. Individuals in the crowd are seen holding McCain/Palin signs, and others are holding pom-poms and cheering wildly. Theres a crowd of folks, an enthused Jarrett observed, referring to the old footage. Watch it:

An intern at a third rate channel over here who doesnt really care about his job doesnt make a mistake like that, but a professional who probably gets paid severl hundred thousand a year to make sure shit like this doesnt happen does?

Now I'm an imbicile. I never said, even remotely, that Fox is completely innocent of any wrongdoing altogether. Are they better than the other cable news networks? I'm not an expert on tv production, but I'm sure each outlet excells in certain aspects over their rivals. They do have twice the viewership of MSNBC and CNN combined though... that's gotta mean something; if they were a horrible news orgainzation that simply wouldn't happen.

And Mongoose, that example is a horrible comparison. Anyone watching those clips would now those were of Palin at campagin rallies... they were showing the whole "Palin drawing huge crowds" theme to talk about how her book signing was doing the same; I didn't see them say, "There she is at a book signing right there," while showing footage of her at a campaign event. The MSNBC footage was blatant doctoring of the original video, cropping out his skin and making a black guy assumed to be a white guy carrying a gun... then trying to inject race into the protest when it had nothing to do with anything. That is seriously fucked up.

That's because they're so blatantly conservative. They offer viewers a perspective that reinforces the views of those people. And they get a lot of viewership from those that despise them.

And I realize MSNBC does the same. The sad thing is that CNN is fairly balanced and still gets called things like the Clinton News Network, Communist News Network, etc. For God's sake, they had Lou Dobbs & Glenn Beck on there very recently, which should show the balance.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Jan-18-2010 17:22:

That's not balanced - Beck has twice as many chins as Dobbs!

Yeah, you know that argument would hold much more water if the guy didnt basically state that the videos that are shown are from the book signing and not from the campaign. Maybe its the lack of sleep but i undestand the following statement from the video

quote:
Countinouing to draw huge crowds while promoting her brand new book, take a look at, these are some of the pictures just comming to us, you can see the lines formed earlier this morning shes, theres a crowd of folks

that the guy wes saing that the pictures were taken of the actuall book signing on that day or perhaps even broadcasted live, and not some 1 year old footage from a vault.

Posted by Allayla on Jan-18-2010 17:46:

A couple years back there was a huge lawsuit brought against faux for all their lies and they won. The courts ruled in their favor saying they have every right to lie as much as they want.

Since then, they've kicked it into high gear by giving glenn beck a platform to dumb down their white trash teabagging viewership even more.

Th17sss is a perfect example, teabaggery on full display.

It's not that sad really. The mindset of a comedian is to look at things from different angles and make them funny. They can use that same ability to look at issues from different perspectives and evaluate them to come up with a clear political stance.

When Jon Stewart interviewed Lou Dobbs, he (Jon) surprised me by saying that he thought you had to choose a side when you present the news in order to be successful. I don't think he meant he thinks it's right, but it's what you have to do to get viewers.

You don't think that Fox's intermittent programming of news and pundits isn't intended to do exactly this?

The switched footage of the attendance at their teabag rally with that of the Glenn Back rally isn't editing with the intent to mislead?

To quote Stewart "MSNBC wishes they were Fox" (meaning as successful). No one with any credibility is trying to claim MSNBC as an unbiased news source.

Ratings are no indicator of the quality of a news source. They only indicate how many people watch it, which could be for a variety of reasons.

That suit was filed against a local affiliate in Tampa by 2 of its former employees... for decisions their local producer asked of them. It had nothing to do with the actual Fox News Channel or any of its corporate executives sending directives from the top down.

Glen Beck's program on Fox is no different than Olbermann's on MSNBC or James Carville's on CNN... and you know this. So, attacking only Fox kind of makes you a hypocrite, no? Opinion pundit shows are different than actual news programs; Glen Beck is not a journalist reporting the news. That MSNBC clip was deliberate editing of source material to fan racial flames. Go on and call me a "teabagger", as if that pseudo homosexual innuendo makes me look dumb and you the clever elite. As George Will stated, you water carrying liberals can't stand Fox because they are the one discordant note in an otherwise harmonious (media) chorus.

That's what everyone is missing here; people are only attacking Fox when they know damn well the other's have their own biases... so, why the singling out of just Fox?

Switching footage of crowd size is a perfect example... Fox did it, and they all do it, and I don't like it. But that is vastly different than what MSNBC did and far less dangerous; creating a fake race-baiting storyline by taking the time to doctor a video? Come on now.

Posted by leph555 on Jan-18-2010 20:19:

yea but Glen beck is a full on retard
