That's my point though. Why would anyone listen and learn about classic trance if you don't listen to them first? Telling people they know nothing and that they should check out a sound completely different to what they want to hear is a sure-fire way of alienating them.

There are plenty of threads on TA about classic trance. The people who are receptive to it will find it soon enough, and those that aren't can't be forced. We've developed this stupid enmity on TA between the regulars and the newbies where nobody learns anything and nobody is ever helpful. People are too snobbily obsessed with this notion of educating people for their own good.

I'm not denying I'm an elitist, which is why I qualified it with "of the irritating kind". If I can't make a helpful recommendation, I don't make one. I just get sick of smug bastards on TA being deliberately obtuse. Like whenever someone asks for "electro" and then posts some electro-house, everyone will invariably say "That isn't electro. Here's some electro" and post Planet Rock, even though Planet Rock is the only fucking electro track they know because they don't listen to the stuff.

In this case, couch-potato clearly specified what sound he wanted by referring to old Tiesto mixes. If you actually treat him as a knowledgable human being who wants something specific then you wouldn't recommend him acid from 1994. If R9 had bothered to do that, he wouldn't have made the post he did.

Man, I'm going to be honest, I get so fucking confused by the genre and sub-genre labels.

I realize we are mostly discussing semantics here, and while you might get tired of my nitpicking/rambling I just feel like clarifying some. You're not alone in getting a little annoyed of the "smug bastards" at times. I really can't complain since I tend to swing to that side myself now and then. I think you're a little too negative on the enmity you're describing though.

What I meant by not giving a f. was that it's not a lack of reading and understanding the newbies post, it's a just a natural "defence" against all the ridiculous first-poster-threads we get here. I'm sure many users that posts a patronising and "educational" post knows very well what the OP is after. I realize it may be a two-edged sword; it can both alienate and broaden peoples horizons. With a lot of experience with different forums and internet communities I've grown accustomed to expect a certain amount of alienation when being new. It works as a kind of qualitycontrol.

In this case it would take a lot of ignorance and stupidity in the OP for me to take the "smug bastard-route". Wether or not that was what was done is again - subjective. I see how it can be interpreted as that after reading your reasoning.

I assumed that but still wasn't sure, hence the reason for making this thread. To clarify, I'm looking for CDs that will bring me out of the typical super-star DJ mold that I'm in. The early Tiesto/Oakenfold compilations are fantastic, I'm just looking for more tunes is all. No contradictions intended.

I really like Space Age 1.0 & 2.0, regardless of Tiesto's name on the label, it introduced me further to DJ Montana - which is exactly the thing I'm looking for.

I don't mind acid from 1994 Guys like Emmanuel Top pumped out a lot of good tracks. I just threw down the Tiesto compilations as examples because I figured most people would know who he is

Will do my best to check out everything suggested. Thanks!

No, it happend without Scooter. Think I haven't mention Scooter for a while, except maybe Cosmos, but that was brilliant. I'm to old for Scooter now, but did love it. Also wasn't the only one either.
