The point is rather that (at least in Bavaria) beer is frequently served in 1 litre portions. That's what you get at Oktoberfest and most beer gardens, where you btw go to have lunch, so you're basically wasted by noon.

Haha, I have a 1 litre stein, but it's impractical here, due to the heat (especially today, at 36C). The beer would be warm by the time you've reached 3/4 of it. And warm beer is an abomination!
