Firstly, you have shit teeth, which you've admitted yourself. I'm sure your food intake hasn't helped them.

Secondly, what works for you doesn't work for everyone. Up until a few years ago I was eating KFC three times a week and still maintaining my weight with no exercise. Others put on weight far more easily. I was ranked nationally for my athletic event while eating pies and that kind of rubbish every day.

Thirdly, it's not so much about controlling obesity as it is setting up good eating habits for the future. Once you get into a rut of eating poorly, it's hard to get out. If we teach children maths and English at school, why shouldn't we also teach them nutrition, aided with a bit of practical work?

You must have been fucking skeleton. My BMI is 22 and I'm often called skinny in the pejorative sense.

Actually, I was a good runner because I played sports every lunch time. Eating sugary foods doesn't give you cardiovascular ability, much as fatties everywhere wish it did. And I was one of the top students and never had a problem concentrating.

I have shit teeth because I declined to wear a brace when I was a teenager. I don't have a single filling or cavity and my dentist praises the condition of my teeth every time I visit him. The only problem is my out-of-whack canines.

Which is exactly why you shouldn't restrict the behaviour of everyone due to the problems of the few. Introducing generalised laws because fucking idiots can't regulate their children's diets punishes everyone out there who can exercise common sense and self control.

I was taught nutrition at school. Has no impact either way on my point.

I was. I had a strong bout of glandular fever when I was 13 and lost over 14lbs of weight that completely set back my physical development.

I'm sure you're super awesome, so don't get defensive, we are talking about everyone else. For the small amount of time you're at school 8-2pm, its not unreasonable to impose some dietary limitations. When you get home from school or before you get on the bus drink all the soda and junk food you want.

Bitches! My BMI is 15.

It's okay to be jealous.

Yeah, but you're vegan.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jan-21-2010 03:17:

You'd have had a fucking mission stopping me eating what was in my lunchbox.

It's actually gone UP since I stopped eating meat. Sadly I'm still way too underweight and can't make it go up

You're anorexic.

Bullshit its not unreasonable. By what right do schools have to dictate what I put in my childs lunchbox? Quote the relevant statute.

are you a heavy drug user?

Posted by Lews on Jan-21-2010 03:32:

Not at all.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-21-2010 03:34:

prescription drugs count too

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jan-21-2010 03:36:

By the way, Domesticated: a BMI of 22 is smack-bang in the middle of the healthy range. The people calling you skinny are almost certainly insecure about their own weight.

Posted by Lews on Jan-21-2010 03:38:

Yeah, I was thinking that too Jack.

Actually, Jay I've been cutting down heavily on my meds, only take beta blockers regularly, some abdomen pain pills, the occasional anxiety med, and sleeping pills once in a while. Nope, I'm afraid my concentration-camp like BMI is all natural.

If you ate meat you could quit all those AND regain your heterosexuality.

wasn't trying to insult you by the comment, many prescription meds do have effects on metabolism. Some components of certain anti depressants are even used in diet meds.

schools have lots of rules that students need to abide by and they don't need specific statues to impose and enforce them. For example, schools have dress codes and rules on whether electronic devices allowed in the classroom.

Or so used to seeing overweight people everywhere that their standards for what is 'healthy-looking' have changed. This is now a recognised phenomenon.

Hmmm, good points. Both of those examples relate specifically to schooling however.

A major root of the problem is parents don't parent, they give their child every thing they want. The school is often forced to deal with the effects of lack of parenting. Children aren't used to hearing the word "NO". One manifestation is the prevalence of junk food and sugar in their diet. Like I explained before sugar not only effects the child who ingesting it, their hyperactive behavior is disruptive in the classroom for others trying to learn. Once you stop thinking about only you and your child you'll be able to understand that schools are a community.

15?

That's quite unhealthy. You really need some good fats in your body.

Yes indeed, I just checked my BMI at the doctors the other week and according to the scale 20 to 25 is the healthy range. Anything lower is considered underweight and anything over is considered obese.

I'm on 20 at the moment and I'm pretty skinny. Almost twig like so I plan on gaining some weight. If you're on anything below 20 I can't imagine how unhealthy that may be.
