I like your style.

And each of the tracks used must be the vinyl pressing and not the cheating beatport digi re release. Sort out the men from the boys.

Why not make a contest for us TA producers? Winner track gets played at the festival by the DJ who wins

more now than ever is it important to be true to vinyl.

Just don't put a lot of stock in the mixing aspect. I know that sounds stupid because that is what DJ'ing is, but you're absolutely right in that people would just record it until they think its flawless. Focus on programming, track selection, flow, originality, overall appeal.

Above all else, if I did go in that direction, I wouldn't want it to turn into a popularity contest for votes but rather to have the music speak for itself.

This would be my concern, should it go to a public vote.

When the stakes are high it brings out the worst in people. Avoiding a popularity contest inherently means no public voting.

Fully agree.

This is a great idea, evem though I'm more prog than trance (if at all) I reckon I could take one for the team and do a proggytrance set.

I reckon swamper should select the best mixes and put them up for litening and voting anonimously. If anyone who has submitted is found to be promoting their set nummber, then it's disqualified.

This way a mix would be chosen based on ability and track selection, without bias.

*Bump*

The contest would be to play in Europe sometime in July....

Posted by mfitterer1 on Apr-05-2010 19:02:

So when do you plan on posting it?

Posted by Sean Walsh on Apr-05-2010 23:42:

For me, the best set would likely include a diverse range of proggier trance tunes over the past several years, as this DJ would likely be playing an opening set rather than busting out something at peak time. 90% of the marks would be given for the programming, with the assumption that mixing will be tight by default (seriously, how can you fuck up in a recording session with today's DJ'ing technology).

Pretty much my thoughts.

I wouldn't mind putting together a prog set that would work well at a trance event. Playing in Europe definitely intrigues me. Post it up!

I bet it's for the Exit festival in Serbia? One of the companies I work for is having a competition for them as well.
I'll be there anyways, though not as a DJ, I'll probably have some gigs around there though somewhere close to the dates of Exit :-)
Is this competition still going to be held?

Posted by Branah on Apr-06-2010 20:35:

Well I doubt it is Exit, they never have any trance really, especially not a trance stage. But anyway great idea for the contest and including a fellow TA track. good luck with it!

As far as I'm aware, no criteria/rules have been set yet.
