Anyone have any livesets of his I can download? I'd love to hear what this guy brought

www.victorcalderone.com/podcast

His podcasts are nothing like his live sets tho.

i wouldn't say nothing like his podcasts...maybe not so much his first two, but i heard him drop at least 3-4 tracks from his episode 3 podcast

Maetrik and Maceo Plex - Fabrick
Lissat & Voltaxx Sunrise Over Mali (D Nox & Beckers Remix)
Steve Parker - Mexilhao

and i think:
Matt Tolfrey & D Ramirez - Bounce to Me (Lauhous Mix)

either way it was a good musical journey through tech-house, techno, NY big room & tribal

definately in my top 5 fave fw parties!

Posted by AY STAR on Feb-02-2010 21:23:

yea his first 2 podcasts were nothing like what he's known for playing when hes out
his last one was pretty good, but no where near what kind of destruction he can really do lol

I do agree, but I remember being tooooo tired to dance to the drums at some point before 11 so I just migrated to the trance room where I could just trance away instead of dance to drums...kinda sucks CUZ if the drums were on earlier then I could have danced myself to ... lol

A little late and I'm not much of a review writer, but here goes...

We made sure we arrived early which was definitely a good call as there was already a line-up by 10:30

The vibe felt great right off the get-go and of course the back to back musketeers were going hard and strong.

This was my first time seeing VC and I had only heard one set of his up to this point, but based on what I was hearing from people I was expecting quite the night. VC did not disappoint me but didn't blow my mind either. The hand off of the decks was great and everyone was totally pumped and going crazy, which is always nice I was expecting to hear more drums, again based on what I was hearing from others, but wasn't bothered by the lack of them. I danced hard for a few hours but around 4 my ears started KILLING which really threw off my mood and kinda killed my enthusiasm. This hasn't ever happened to me before, at least not to this extent, so it was really distracting, and while I was still enjoying myself I couldn't pay attention to what was going on musically as much as I wanted to I went to coat check to get ear plugs but the guy didn't have any, which just pissed me off more lol.... anyways I had a great time with awesome friends and amazing beats, but it's time for me to get some good earplugs. I've been talking about doing it for a while now but now I must lol. I'm wondering if anyone else was having volume issues or if it was just me?

I couldn't stopped smiling when VC dropped Breakfast in Bag, I'm sure it was a proud moment for all of us TOTAs haha (maybe not, I could just be weird :P) not that we deserve any credit but you know what I mean... I can only imagine how cool that must have been for Carlo!!!

can't wait to give him another chance at BeB

He's playing what looks like a Recovery party for Bal en Blanc on the 5th.

He's also playing at Stereo next Saturday, and by God, I think I'm going to be crazy enough to go to this.

He may be playing a different format with tech instead of drums, but he still plays the same style as he used to. Victor has always been about huge buildups, big drops, layering tracks and accapellas out of nowhere. He did all that and more at Footwork.

perfect description of his style
alot of it goes into his set times,warm-up dj's,club etc etc
calderone is not like a generic trance dj who comes in spins 2-3 hours then goes to another club the next day and 75% of the tracks will be the same as the night before
so maybe he was just going with the flow that carlo set up for him as the opening dj
sorry for anyone who was expecting more drums, it is a bit disapointing cause i kinda miss them also, there has been a good portion of tribal coming out these days so hopefully he can blend in a few more percussion driven tracks into his sets for the future

This is true, but you must admit, when Victor starts busting out the drums...

Although some may disagree, I don't think there is anyone who can play tribal better than Victor Calderone.

I completely agree. And this also contributed to my disapointed of the party. I know that Victor has changed his sound to very techy but I was hopeful and thought he may bust out some tribal.

he is by far my fav tribal dj.... I will continue listening to old sets of him.

He does in some of his more recent sets, but not to the degree I would like.

My ideal Victor would be 75% tribal, 25% techno influence.

victor calderone tribal is serious shizz yes, but for me dj vibe is #1

i hope he brings the drums back to stereo on feb 27th, he hasssssss to!!!

I'll agree w/ this statement... tho I don't yearn to hear a "bongo/drum-only" set from him, that ship has sailed...

for sure... this was evident too when you could hear the difference between junkies/carlo (obv tech-house rollers) transitioning into victor's more driving/techy sound, his songs are shaped more like prog/tribal...

Oh, for sure. Neither would I. In fact, it would be preferable only to have a portion of the set as tribal. A tribal-only set would be really boring.

In my opinion, the best "tribal" sets, are those sets that have lots of dark progressive and tech house tracks, with tribal used as a tool to take the set to the next level. It is a tool that should be used sparingly in any set. Too much tribal = very boring.

they will both be at pacha nyc on feb 20th
its my first time seeing vibe live and iam pretty excited
his radio show is very good and alot of my friends said he throws down a good set

as for tribal...besides older calderone
i would say tenaglia and chus and ceballos are def up there also
espcially danny...when he is on...HE IS ON
