You have to pay $28 for a six pack of boston lager?? HOLY CHRIST. btw this is the german beer thread apparently haha.
I know these brews aren't remotely accessible for most people on here (really anybody outside of california, for that matter..though distribution has slowly increased) but I'm gonna brag a bit I suppose:

w00t
PtE is there most accessible and distributed beer :

I've got a few of their sours in my cellar too (beer cellar whattt!). Maybe I'll go ahead and post some pics later

You have to love a beer call "the end of the world"

Fuck yeah Pliny The Elder. I'm pretty sure I've had Pliny the Younger, but my friend says I didn't.

Where did you try it? And when? It's released once a year (sometime in these next two weeks, I believe...I should get on top of that..) and not in bottles. It's only kegs and they're in short supply. I've tried it once at Fathers Office in Santa Monica and once at Naja's in redondo beach. Those two places will certainly get and tap kegs of it when the time comes--over the next two months it'll probably pop up at various bars / events. I think, but don't quote me on this, they sell growlers of it up at RR brewery but I've never made the trip.

Whether or not you've had it before...make a point to have it again. I can't wait haha.

I'm looking at their website now actually and pliny the younger is going to be on tap at their brewpub starting this friday. Starting the 8th they'll be shipping kegs to key places in and around the bay area with kegs making their way down to Socal by the end of the week. ... which means it should start turning up soon.

Wow great timing on this thread I probably wouldn't have realized for a while haha. I've been out of the loop

Croatia's best beer!

If you ever find yourself in this banana country, you really should try it.

Only problem is - it's pretty rare, only some pubs have it.

FEEL IT

I generally prefer Belgian offerings to those of their eastern neighbor. I'm in the midst of a Chimay red at the moment. Definitely one of my favorites.

Posted by Adam420 on Feb-04-2010 02:47:

word for starting a beer thread and double word for naming some of my favorite hefe weisse thus far.

Stu, I like the Schneider Edel-Weisse but I find that the hopping is slightly too strong and so is the alcohol content (for me anyway). I guess that's the style that is "Edel Weisse". I much prefer Schneider Original, or even Aventinus for that matter. I love the taste of Aventinus, so warm and fruity, and you don't taste the alcohol (it's 8.2%).

I've also tried Aventinus Eisbock:

Very strong (12%) and so yeasty, that I swear to you mate, it tasted a bit like Marmite.

Anyway, another beer I recently tried was this one:

It's a super-strong lager (I believe) at 14% abv. It was once listed in the Guiness book of world records as the world's strongest beers. It is very highly rated. It is brewed once a year on the 6th of December and then matured for 12 months, before being sold. I personally hated it but that's just me.

Another beer I recently tried for the first time is Orval (6.9% abv). It's a real trappist beer in the sense that it is actually made by monks (there are only 5 breweries that do this, I believe, with 4 in Belgium and 1 in Holland). It is quite dry but interesting at the same time. I didn't like it as much as some other strong Belgians I've had, but it was nice.

Finally, I'd like to recommend this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Ency...s/dp/1840380853

Recently bought it for $20 off a buddy at work and wow, it is very, very extensive. The beer section is particularly great, detailing ingredients, brew methods, countries, etc...other sections look good as well but Ihaven't looked at them in detail.

Hehe, I've been drinking quite a bit of that Aventinus doppelbock lately. Sooooo good, the flavour is gorgeous. They have no more left at both my local stores though

Meat187 told me I had to drink them in pairs (oh well, if i have to). Such a good buzz, hah

It's a delicious way to get drunk, that's for sure.

Considering the selection that's available to you locally (and how limited it seems to be), I cannot stress enough just how much you should get your ass down to Melbourne to pick up some beers (and have them shipped back home). In fact, that store might even be able to ship something to you (I know how you guys like to have crates of booze delivered to your houses).

All lagers and pilseners suck. There, I said it

Damn it, I keep forgetting to try out this site:

http://www.beerstore.com.au/index.asp

They seem to have a pretty good selection, and they deliver.
