oh where to begin...techno can go from one end of the sound spectrum to the other. detroit techno/house can be argued as the starting point for it all, while others elude to earlier groups like kraftwerk.( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_techno )Regardless of where it comes from, "techno" as it is called by people so heavily into it, can sound like any of this

minimal, dub, progressive, jazz, tech-house, hard...depends on what kind of dance music and sound you are looking for.

people cite djs like Carl Cox, Eric Prydz and the like as "techno" when really it's mostly progressive house and electro. I know Eric tends to have more techno-sounding tracks with his project Cirez D, but I still consider a lot of it progressive house.

outside of Atlanta (and the United States), techno is pretty popular...

but this is pretty much true of all types of electronic music

My crap machine is only letting me load the bottom three, and I really only like the last one. But I like it enough to be interested... although I'm pretty sure I've heard stuff like it before and probably classified it as minimal or progressive house. Thanks for the links

not sure why the information on that youtube video says "minimal electro house". umek doesn't play minimal...and the video starts out with a building peak

I brought this dj last April...from Munich, Germany. Very detroit sound to his mixing, which is a lot more dubby and minimal than the more progressive stuff
