Wouldn't the designers of the course realise that if you hit the place he did that something like that could happen

Sorry scratch that, they are doing 100 miles per hour, not kilometres. That's 160km/h with no safety netting and/or padding!

Someone needs to lose their job for this.

The bigger question is why was he even in the Olympics? This was his second crash this week and he wasn't a medal threat. He isn't even within the top 50 in the world. They need to change the rules as to who qualifies for the olympics...not just in luge but in almost every olympic sport.

I see your point, but he did have a top 50 result this season which enabled him to qualify for the Olympics. Regarding the crashes I read there were a dozen crashes before his shut it down today. Plus the IOC would get firebombed if they only allowed the top 10 or 15 athletes per event. Anyway, very sad.

I've actually gone on this course, though only going about 40 mph, and it scared the hell out of me. I can't imagine someone doing 100. Anyways, it's a very dangerous sport. A few years ago someone got decapitated, anyone remember seeing that?

DO indulge.

it was nice that they took a miniute of silence for him at the openingceremonies tonight.

i'm glad he is dead though, because wayne gretzky and steve nash are cooler.

That's the point. They should all have them.

one person dies...it can happen if you cross the street, eat bad seafood, have sex with me.

fuck the nets..no one watches this sport other than in Olympic years (even then...how often have you watched it? i never have), if anything it gives it exposure.

RIP

somebody fucked up making the course so dangerous. I hear even top athletes have trouble with it. I wonder what will the organizers do with the event now

I found the video on Youtube. Have a look if you have the stomach. Do it quick before they take it down.
