i have never seen luciano but i know he doesnt play harder rolling techno (aka Umek nowadays for example). The hardest as far as i am aware that he plays is groovier tech house. You might have mistaken it for techno when you heard it live because it may indeed sound rather hard on a big soundsystem.

Here is his october chart - which is not that far back in the day )).
LUCIANO CHART

two most recent luciano vids from utube:

Yes, you must be right that I was mistaken. You see, I am new to this genre called techno.

Thank you for the clarification.

if you asked this question some 2-3 years ago i'd shout LAZYDAZE at the top of my lungs but now, im completely out of touch with the "scene" (screw you old age)so i cant help you.

but im sure this wont be so hard to find because toronto has some of the wickedest deep house dj's in the world (imo).

i will ask around though and as soon as i hear something i will let you know.

cheers

I should also add... If you get the chance to see Rich Hope anywhere in this city, do it, without a second thought.

Also check out Mike Gleeson.

Oh snap, with a solid right hook Vanos has Highroller on the ropes! It could all be over here folks, unless Highroller comes back with an epic 4 hour session of rolling techno recorded live at Circoloco!!! It'd have to be at least 192k, and from a direct line into the mixer, but it looks like he just might have it in him! The ref is counting it down...

One..

Two...

Th...

??????????

lol, Witty, 128kb would be sufficient! but it has to have an authorized digital signature, integrated cover art and a cue file

but i think whatever luciano plays, this is some sick deep house tune:

luciano does not play deep house as his main genre, while his style is versatile his main genre is techno/tech-house. He toured with loco dice last year, that would give you an idea.

ps. a chart does not always mean that's what the dj plays (e.g. podcasts)

Posted by Vanos on Feb-20-2010 13:42:

i know a chart doesnt always mean that, that why i posted two most recent luciano vids from utube lol. but its a silly discussion i think everyone already got enough of arguing. You can call it whatever you want, but the music luciano plays is not normally classified as techno on beatport.

Call it what you want, but one thing it definitely isn't is deep house. Even the last example you posted is basically prog, it's like something straight off a Hernan Cattaneo mix.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of these, the FLSH one is a great tune, and Loco Dice & Luciano's techno set at DEMF blew me away, but I think that people who listen to too much techno seem to have a lot of trouble identifying deep house.

It's supposed to be funky, c.f.:

(and even that is on the techier side, but I think if I posted a Ben Watt track people would start saying "pff, that's just gay", even though that's pretty much what most of the genre is)

Most of the other DJ/producer names posted here were spot on: Jimpster, Osunlade (obviously), Milton Jackson, Phonique, Denis Ferrer, etc. All great examples. Luciano is definitely not in that category, not even close.

I've heard Luciano play tracks from almost all of these artists. Luciano is not a deep house DJ, but he definitely plays a deep house set every once in a while. Obviously there are more techy tracks in there than a DJ like Ferrer would play, but I have seen 2 sets from him I would classify as deep house.

This is a pretty sexy deep house mix imo:

Ok, now you're just insinuating that a DJ can play various styles at different times depending on the mood of the room like a professional should.

So what are you really sayig? You guys were all right, and this whole debate was pointeless from the get-go?!

Pfffffft.

If you didn't make such ridiculous mistakes, I wouldn't have to point them out.

Yes, and a DJ also has his own preferences, just like any other professional. What a revolutionary idea, that a person who specializes in one thing can occasionally do other things.

Lil'y on Thursday has this dude called dirty dale,,pretyy good and to me footwork isnt all that deep( the music they play) mostly minimal, but either its goodtimes

Posted by WittyHandle on Feb-20-2010 21:42:

I'd love to see a deep house night that played old Naked Music style stuff. It was so soulful and warm, just perfect. I like a lot of newer deep house too, but a lot of it is more techy, and it just feels a little bit cold imo.

Posted by rulzz on Feb-20-2010 21:52:

^^^^not a litte cold, very cold and soulless IMO

Went there for the first time last night for a Fabricated party! Random decision lol. Really cozy venue, it was nice to be at a lounge versus a club for the first time in awhile. Love that they serve Bailey's there! <3

Wicked! I'm happy to hear you went, and that you liked the venue! Those couches/booths on the side make it SO cozy. I was going to go for some pre-knuckles pre-drinking action, but we ended up leaving too late

Did you get to catch any of irGO's set?
