Why was this kept so quiet on here.

It's on Malia's signature on the first page and I had posted it here.

Yep, that's really giving the event exposure.

Anyone know how much cover at the door will be? Trying to get someone else to go but she can't be there until she gets off of work, and no way she can be there by 10:30pm.

The best bet is to buy presale tickets if she can't be there by 10:30PM.

GROOVETICKETS

Posted by DaveT on Mar-28-2010 02:08:

That's not what I asked!

Sometimes people don't decide until last minute...say until later tonight (ie. it'll depend on how tired she is after work).

I cannot believe I got the "buy a presale" line as an answer, like I'm a n00b.

Posted by approximalia on Mar-28-2010 02:23:

I only said that because I wasn't sure what the price after the guestlist closes is going to be, but I do know that the presale ticket price is always cheaper.

Of course.

Just giving you a hard time.

Posted by approximalia on Mar-28-2010 02:42:

Let's all meet up on the patio at 11PM as usual. I know we're ALL looking forward to finally meeting DaveT!

TIP: If you miss the meetup, you can always find most of the TAs front & center near the stage!

Posted by DaveT on Mar-28-2010 03:01:

I doubt we'll be there by 11 (just cause we have to wait for the babysitter to get home).

What are the set times anyway?

BTW, I'm sure most of you wil reocognize me before I recognize you. And if I do recognize you, I'll prob be too shy to come up and say hi.

Posted by DaveT on Mar-28-2010 03:10:

Eh, I got it figured out...

9-12 : Mike & Yono
12-2 (or 3, hopefully) : KnA
2 (or 3, hopefully) -4 : Victor

I tried to introduce myself and talk to you one time a while back but you looked at me like I was some weird Circus freak (no pun intended)

Nice to hear about the sound. Where were the decks this time?

In the back.

The sound was fine in the main room and a bit too loud on the side room and the loft.

Overall it was an OK night; lots of energy for Kyau & Albert; half empty side room and totaly empty loft when I checked; crowd started thinning out after 2:30.

Why do people leave so early now? I remember people complaining that it didn't stay open long enough.

It was probably me trying to put your name together in my head in the mdidle of the loud music.

ANd people often think I hate them before they get to know me,lol.

Also, with the sound it was clean sound, but...

1) For an EAW Avalon system, where is the bass? Always been an issue, still is.
2) Stage was 6-10ft too far back, IMO. If you were in front of the stage, the sound was mainly behind you.
3) The sound was better in the back of the room...where the original DJ booth is. But that kinda makes sense!
4) Having powerful monitors (because the monitors I saw up there should be unacceptable in a club like Circus) on that stage might be a challenge, because I imagine it'd make the stage vibrate like hell. Don't want DJs to get Shaken DJ Syndrome (ala, DJs don't want to play anymore because their feet get an overdone foot massage for a couple hours ), hehe.

I liked the use of couch's to seperate the huge floor, makes the crowd get into a tigher group. Dunno if that perception is still there when standing way up on the stage, though. If not...Circus have rollable bar carts they can setup on the actual floor. Kinda give a virtual wall in the back behind the couches, hehe.

That all said, you can see a real attempt to try to have the "feel" of Circus be different than it used to be...which is a good thing. It feels like a darker place inside now...maybe just less use of lights, because I didn't really see a lot of i.

As some have mentioned, the crowd wasn't huge. I thought KnA would have a good following in LA by now. But that doesn't appear to be the case. And I just say that's why it's important for DJs to choose which venues and promoters they play for. When the landscape of the club scene in the area changes, you see how those choices can greatly affect them. Nothing anyone with LMD could've done. Maybe they can be the group that helps KnA establish a following in the area.

Finally, I had a lot of fun. The night went by way faster than it felt. None of the sets stood out to me, but I don't have any huge complaints (well, other than Mike & Yono playing four vocal tracks in a row right up until their last track, which wasn't....and maybe got a little too fast/trancey with those final tracks...KnA's set def did not have the same energy as Mike & Yono ended with..and the crowd stood still for a minute there.

It's ok if you hate me. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over somebody not liking me j/k.

Circus always has a slow Saturday night during WMC, no matter who's promoting the night. Or at least it's been like that the last 5 years or so.

I'm gonna keep beating the dead horse and say the original dj booth should be used instead of the back of the main room. It'd work so much better!!

Sarah: One of the reasons people leave earlier nowadays is because the headliner doesn't close out the night. I remember staying til the end many many times during the Spundae days because I didn't wanna miss the last minutes of the headliner's set when it was the most banging Of course now I might leave early because I'm a senior citizen and my bed keeps calling me...

I totally agree and I know many others also agree on that.

aahh... that's right! I remember staying till the end too once upon a time but now, this body gets tired and I start to see visions of my bed.

Had a fun time as usual!

I only get out to Circus every blue moon because of the job schedule but every time never fails. The crowd was a little thin, but saw many regulars and felt right at home. And becuase if the lighter crowd, I used the extra space in the back where the sound was excellent and gave me 20ft of square space to try all my attempts of shuffling, candy walking what ever else came to mind.... I was the black dude grooving in the back dancing like no ones business...lol

Aside from the one incident where I kept another dude frm punching another guy in the face... I could very say that it was a great night!

Hope you ran into "just be"... LMD, you are cool peeps!!

Im hoping that you guys have some great talent at the end of the month... as Im looking forward to spending my b day there in April!
