I'm genuinely surprised no one has brought up Flash 10.1 for mobile devices. They've been extending the release date for months but it still stands at this first half of this year. That being great and all, it appears many, many phones on the market won't get full flash 10.1 support based on incompatible chipsets.

From Adobe forums"
quote:
Hi all,

You can expect the final release for Android to be available mid-year. All Android devices that meet our minimum s/w and h/w requirements will be supported. Unfortunately, I cannot say a lot more publicly about our port to the Android platform at this time.

As for WinMo, we have made the tough decision to defer support for that platform until WinMo7. This is due to the fact that WinMo6.5 does not support some of the critical APIs that we need.
As for your other questions:

* Yes, we will support the Motorola Milestone.

* No, the HTC Hero will not be supported b/c it does not have the correct Anroid OS version and its chipset is not powerful enough. We require a device with an ARM v7 (Cortex) processor. Examples include the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and TI OMAP3 series.

Best regards,
Antonio

Taylor from AndroidAndMe did a little research and made a list of US phones that, based on this information (and assuming its true), will not ever have Flash 10.1 capabilities:

* Sprint Hero
* Sprint Moment
* T-Mobile G1
* T-Mobile myTouch 3G
* T-Mobile CLIQ
* T-Mobile Behold II
* Verizon Droid Eris
* Verizon Devour

This might be something to consider for anyone who wants flash support and is looking to get a new mobile device.

Apple has announced a new iPhone every summer since 2008 and this year should no different. In fact, AT&T has banned all vacations for the month of June, which they have done every time Apple has announced a new iPhone. So expect the iPhone HD to be announced in June, and to be on sale in July. I will probably buy a couple for resale.

that information makes me want to kill kittens. the moment has better specs in many respects than the droid, yet it's impossible for it to use flash 10.1? fucking bullshit

Right now I have the Instinct, but it's been acting up, so I will be buying another phone soon.

Although I have no idea what it will be.

Except the only keys that still have numbers on them are 6 and 9.

Also mine is switched on, the screen isn't normally blank like that.

Nokia candybar phones are awesome. Nearly damn invincible. I still have a Nokia 6610 from like..... 7 years ago? It's been through the wash a couple of times, dropped a bunch of times (including off a 4 story building onto concrete), and still works fine

Seriously...office users dont need clipboard functionality? Seriously? I simply have no words to describe the disaster WP7S is going to be when it is released...

For being a phone nerd, you are throwing out some old and deprecated info. Copy/paste WILL be coming to the WM7 devices at a later date. They realised their mistake and will be adding it at some point. Same with multi-tasking ala expose on the iPhone.

Just curious, why are you hating why they are breaking with the past? They need to. I am not saying I am a big fan of their direction, but they need to deprecate old shit.

i pretty much stole the HTC the girl next to me in class had to check out TA.. i wish i had one!

Which HTC manufactured device? Just an FYI, HTC has made probably thousands of different phones over the years. They formerly made all the Palm devices, they currently make most of the HP smartphones, and they also do some others that most on these forums are unaware of. So please be specific in the device you are referring to.

Just an example of why, here are some phones that HTC currently sells on the market. Droid Eris, Touch Pro2, HD2, Dream (G1), Magic (MyTouch3g), Imagio, Pure, Hero, Snap, Dash3g, Touch Pro, Touch Cruise, etc. Not trying to be a dick, but just trying to paint the picture of how vague calling a device made by HTC an HTC is.

Oh and if anyone is wondering, I am getting the Nexus One when I get back from Japan. Goodbye Windows Mobile and hello Android!

I pretty much expected that too.

I can't wait to have a new phone. Ready for a much better change. Plus at work we use Google for our email and calendar, so it will be great.

I actually thought about getting the Nokia N900. Not sure though.

It would be a great choice. Much better than Sybian of the N97. Symbian is quite shite imho.

How does it stack up against the other smartphones? Like iPhone, the new HTC releases etc.?

Specs wise it is on par with the Motorola Droid and iPhone 3GS. I haven't played with one myself, so I have no personal experience and therefore much of an opinion on it, but if it wasn't overshadowed by say the Nexus One, HTC Incredible, or some others, it is an awesome choice. Ultimately, it depends on what you do with it. If you are heavy on playing music and browsing the net, you should probably get something a bit faster with more ram. It is a bit anemic in those two areas, but otherwise a pretty damn solid device.

HTC doesn't have much of a foothold over here. The only ones I've seen available are the HD2 and Dream devices. The N900 isn't even out here yet

The N97 will do me fine for now, I reckon. I might see what's available next year or something.

I bet you HTC does have a foothold, you just don't know it. In the U.S. they had a foothold for a long while now, but only about the last 1 or 2 years have they finally gotten their name on EVERY device that they are putting out now. No more are they allowing only carrier brands on them. It is a good thing too, because it is setting the stage for them to finally branch out and sell their phones on their own.

Entirely possible. Phone stuff isn't my strong point

Confirmed.

My next phone in 12 months will be whatever the fuck I feel like at the time. Whether that's iPhone, HTC, Nokia, whatever. I can't believe people decide so early what they will get when phones move so fast.

Just got a BlackBerry Bold 9700 last week and it's been pretty good so far. Take that for what it is. Some people say the OS may be a bit outdated, but for me its perfectly fine, runs smoothly and does what I need it to do.
