Well, Guv seems that it's taking place on the sidelines in terms of the atmosphere. The music is shitty on regular nights plus the retarded brain enhancers aren't calibrating.

Yep.

Was in Singapore two years ago. Managed to check out Zouk, Ministry of Sound, and Hed Kandi bars all in one Saturday night. Hed Kandi was more of a lounge, Ministry of Sound was half empty and smaller than the Guvernment. There was one interesting retro 70ties designed room, but they were playing retro 80-90 music. The main room was the same music as the Guvernment on a Saturday night, but no real atmosphere. Zouk was the only busy place, but it also is a small club relatively. I think the club itself is the size of Orange room, but I guess they get the capacity rating when they combine all the other clubs in the complex. Oh, and the beer there was $10 a bottle two years ago.
I am not sure if I have been to Sankeys or a similar place when I was in Manchester about 6 years ago. I think it was one of the main Defected in the House clubs at the time there, but the club itself was a place in an old warehouse about the size of Century Room but with the Footwork atmosphere. The music was good, and the people were into it, which made it good.
Toronto has many nice places with great music that rivals most of the other clubs on the list. However, its the city and people living in Toronto that make the difference. Someone is always complaining about noise, clubs keeping long lines even though the club may be empty, etc... But I do have to agree that Saturday nights at Guvernment are a bit unbearable. Keep your shirts on people is all I have to say.

Interesting place to check out, as is any in Asia. Just make sure you leave your glow sticks at home since they don't allow them in that club. I saw security take them away from some guy when I was there a few years ago.

I have never been to any Euro clubs before, but does Zouk deserve to be ranked so high? Maybe I been there too many times and find it too bland heh.

And Womb is interesting as its in a shibuya residential area so there are bouncers outside that shushes anyone that talks heh. Inside its like a very very bare 3 storey high warehouse with that humongous disco ball

Hahaha @ the bouncers. Although it sounds pretty bare, the photos I've seen make it look kinda small and intimate despite being three stories high, and it looks like it won't be very far from the Shinjuku ward either!

I saw this happen all the time in Euorpe. I even saw the bouncers at Fabric shushing the people on the smoking patio. The crazier thing was that it actually worked!

testament that most DJ Mag readers are British... even the "non-uk" clubs are the most frequented by the British lol MoS and Matter in the top 10 really is bullshit imo

let's be honest, at the end of the day, this is the greatest club in the world...

31. Guvernment

Despite the hate in this thread (and my obv bias working for the place) Guv deserves to be top 10 if not top 5...

Posted by Romchik22 on Apr-06-2010 20:15:

Very happy that Stereo was voted the best club in North America! You have to hand it them, they re-made the club even better then it was. And the sound system is to die for!

yea no shit, 100% agree, the results are in line with the nature of the poll. And given its nature top picks are either British clubs or clubs frequented by Britons. By no means this list even closely objectively measures the "bestness" of clubs, but rather measures club popularity within the UK clubbing crowd.

In my mind, it will always be in the top 10 of the world.

Zouk does not deserve to be that high, but considering that it is one of the lone places in the area, I think it's getting the attention. I don't really want to comment on Womb, but it does have that intimate feeling. And so does Footwork.
Guvernment does deserve to be higher, and they probably would be if they had more than one night a week.
