Actually, I can think of a few good reasons....

And about that concert, ive heard of something similar to the sars concert happening in toronto with a bunch of organizers... and thats separate from the april fools post above.

yea there have been rumblings of a major event happening @ downsview park to coincide with the g8 / g20 summit (which is in late june) for a few months now. there has been nothing official announced tho so who knows ...

I love lawler but enough already on Canada Day. Thats always vacation time for me and we have good friends in from out of town and we could really use something else for that party.

The skybar sunrise sets are really odd. The vibe seems (to me and some other people I talk to) to be a bit off. It never really "picks up".
Just my random 2 cents.

Looking to head to Montreal this year I think although I have no idea whats going on there yet.

There's nothing really going on in MTL for Canada day, cuz our holiday is Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the 24th of June.. thats when all the parties are going on.

SO true. And if Karlo (biggest Lawler fan of all time) is saying this, it's clearly time for a change.

Lawler is good, but fuck please book someone else on Canada Day to play the Skybar!

The volume this past Canada Day was significantly lower than the year prior as well. I remember in 2008 I was feeling really ill and wanted to leave, but the only reason I stayed is b/c the tunes were rockin'. This year the tunes were so low I felt like I was just chillin' on my patio and talking with some friends.

So, will the annual event at Guv be on Wednesday or Thursday?? The years I've gone, I think it's always been on the 30th of June.... Will you all get Friday off of work as well? With Canada day falling on Wednesday last year, I remember a lot of people having to return to work on Thursday or Friday. I assume the lineups will be good all weekend around town (Vola, Footy, MoS, CZ, etc), as well as the normal supply of boat parties....

The party is always on the 30th since you'll have the 1st off. I anticipate a lot of ppl will have to work on Friday the 2nd unless they book it off. Not all jobs will give you a super extended long weekend just b/c the holiday falls on a Thursday.

If there is a big event happening in Downsview park, I might not even go out the night before.

Otherwise, I may go to Ottawa for Canada Day festivities.

I'll only go to Guv if I decide not to go to Ottawa and if there's nothing else going on.

I heard (but don't believe it) that Chus and Ceballos are supposed to play Skybar for Canada Day instead of Lawler (some of it has to do with New Years Day booking drama)but again I don't believe it for a second. I know their next gig is Guvernment and they are in Montreal at the end of June for their provinical holiday, so we'll see what happens...

I didn't believe they were first joining INK when I heard it, but that turned out to be true...hmm...

Canada Day parties at Guv have always been on the 30th. They're always the night before the holiday.
