I tried that once... the judge referred to it a bludgeoning rather then reiki though.

What if everyone in the audience has the same capacity to understand?

Ok, so then what if the argument IS under the assumption that all have that capacity? Doesn't it seem more efficient to be able to do, well - anything, using less tools (words, gestures) to do it? Also assuming efficiency is most desirable.

Yes, then in that case your OP makes sense and you could probably assume that intelligent people use more body language to communicate more efficiently. But that's such a huge assumption that it doesn't have any semblance of an application in the real world - where people have emotions and personalities.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Apr-12-2010 18:48:

Well I'm not talking about the real damn world, shit.

Posted by Cpt.Cocaine on Apr-12-2010 18:51:

I have to go give a big presentation now, and I'm going to try and use an excessive and inappropriate amount of body language.

It's not really about one's capacity to understand, it's about how they prefer to receive information. If one is addressing a large audience it is likely that you will have persons of visual, auditory and mechanical learning styles within it; therefore, the most effective way to address them would be to employ all of those methods. If one were more concerned with communicating the most in the least amount of time then using mechanical techniques is probably out of the question though.

what the fuck is reiki on the clit?

Also, I will consider someone less intelligent if they are overly wordy in their explanations. It feels like they are trying to shoot every single aspect of the topic, that way they feel they will cover everything, no angle will be missed and somehow the receiver of the message will have caught whatever the point was.

Being concise and to-the-point, while still able to maintain an aurally pleasing style and coherence is fucking hot. One of my professors is a phenomenal lecturer and I fantasize about fucking him all time because of his exceptional talent in oral communication.

Yeah everything you're saying is obvious though. I'm thinking beyond that.

It depends on the kind of information. Really, you'd need to read some analysis of body language and the kind of information it's used for. I have the impression that body language is used more to express emotional content.

My friends and I love to gesticulate in a circle formation around a target of interest.

I'm surprised your mother still lets you do that to her.

I believe intelligence is more about relevance, which implies speed.

Like I said in the other thread, I associate intelligence with understanding of the 'whole', and if a topic is understood as a whole rather than piecemeal collection of facts, then it's much easier to be relevant, and that means it's easier to communicate to people, because what you are saying or doing may well be more minimal, but it's much more likely to be exactly the right thing.

so yes, i believe intelligence, at least in the way i understand it, makes people better overall communicators, because their words and actions will tend towards relevance.

check this out:

Wholeness & The Implicate Order by David Bohm (quantum physicist)

quote:
The word 'relevant' derives from a verb 'to relevate', which has dropped out of common usage, whose meaning is 'to lift' (as in 'elevate'). In essence, 'to relevate' means 'to lift into attention', so that the content thus lifted stands out 'in relief'. When a content lifted into attention is coherent or fitting with the context of interest, i.e. when it has some bearing on the context of some relationship to it, then one says that this content is relevant; and of course, when it does not fit in this way, it is said to be irrelevant

I guess that's what happens when there's no brain to fill the gap between your ears.

Mostly with my penis, though.

Something that's in our fucking vows.

The short answer to your questions at least on the receiving end, is that most people are not very perceptive. This has little to do with intelligence but our lack of attention and/or seeing others in terms of our needs rather than who they really are.

Basically most people sleep walk through life.

I actually think that people who speak with their hands too much come off as exceedingly primitive. I just can't help but be distracted by overtly emotive people - though perhaps that's the trick they are looking for, so long as it draws attention away from the usually vapid content of their presentation or otherwise weak communication skills. That's not to say that I don't motion in my speech sometimes - indeed, I am an upright meatsack like everybody else - but people who do it too much or try to make a point out of it just scream fledgling business major or air traffic controller to me.

Psychopaths tend to punctuate sentences they're speaking with more hand-gestures or beats, as researchers call them.
