black box was either german or italian and i believe c and c was more popular in europe than it was here.

I think this is the winner right here:

Not only was it huge in Europe and Canada, but 2 years later it was top 10 in the US which was/is very rare for ANY dance music track especially in the 90s.

I think A night at the roxbury made this immortal!

Both excellent dance acts that most people in N America see as pop. Same goes for Deee-Lite.

You guys all lose. This is an international smash hit. Not everyone knows Sandstorm, but everyone knows this melody.

Vangelis, the great man, the legend behind several amazing movie scores and beautiful emotional new age melodies.

You got the E and the M, but the D is a stretch. Nice tune though. Vangelis is excellent.

Posted by Vanos on Apr-13-2010 03:52:

everyone forgot about this

Posted by WittyHandle on Apr-13-2010 04:19:

Correction, I was trying to forget that one.

Seriously though, imagine if you had never been exposed to real dance music and this was all you heard and you liked it? What would life be like then?

This thread could go in so many ways...

But I think can fall into the category of EDM and recognizable IMO...

Another thinkg, is does recognizable mean...

"Hey! I heard this before"

or "Hey, I heard this before, and I KNOW what it is...."

I would argue that recognizable must mean that the person hearing it can identify it. Despite some very recognizable tunes being included in here my money would have to be on What is Love as every person hearing that track can easily and readily identify it. Sandstorm is definately a track that a lot of people have heard; however, I suspect that most people who heard it in a Top 40 club or over the PA at a sporting event could not identify it.
