Got to experience the Melbourne Shuffle first hand at Together NYE. Must say it does look good when done right.

You definitely need space for it though. So i guess it would be hard for you guys to shuffle up here in Syd as there would be no room. Maybe the 'Sardine Shuffle' would be more approprate!

Melbourne shuffle = Groovy line dancing

Click on promo's for vids of the shufflers. I believe in brissie theyve got the brisbane stomp or something.

Looks pretty trippy. I tried it like in that video and looked like a tool. Maybe you need those pants or something..

Posted by Sly_Guy on Oct-16-2005 01:53:

haha wiki does kick ass.

Downloaded the 37 MB video only to find out it was shot during the middle of one of those godforsaken 2 minute breakdowns in a trance track and everyone was standing still. Now out of spite, I refuse to download any others.

I'll stick to downloading popping videos instead.

*EDIT*
I just got my first look at the Brisbane Stomp. Man, that shit's been done for a long time, it was called 'skipping' over here, and you did it to jungle music. Just take out a high kick, or a jump where you land very close to the ground and it's the exact same thing.

Hmmm, well it is raving, "Melbourne Shuffle" is just a style that people incorperate into their raving.

we went there, and watch the DJ fuckup a couple of mixes. apparently the headphone jack broke (now where did i saw that before?)

then mixer got replaced (rudely i might add, because they just stopped the rekkid and start pulling out cables lol) finally the DJ start playing some minimal tunes.

at that point it was getting cold so we decided to take the long drive home

they'll have the dvd showing at 9pm but cbf going there again, tbh.

You kinda like move the right foot around sorta the left and then swap that process or also sometimes ppl cut sick with both...

It's all about one step, stomp, whatever you wanna call it per beat...

umm...yeah........I understand the, looks like we don't do much but a lot is happening below........; another point: are they saying we don't move our arms and they just hang by our sides???!!!! pffft.

but I can understand the sydney jumping thing LOl

you always failed at explanations.

The DVD was pretty good, sorta gives you a pride in the Melbourne scene and forget a bit of the bullshit attached.
But the party got shutdown by cops probably about half way through the screening I reckon, kinda sucked..

fixed, imo.

Posted by chubbs on Dec-18-2005 04:41:

lol, when I refer to "bullshit", I mean the politics and drugs in the scene that are constantly there.
The DVD makes you think more about the self expression, enjoyment side and the focus more on the music.

Posted by tachyon on Dec-18-2005 04:58:

does it have old footages from pre-1998 parties like global village, hardware 2-16, EPTAS, turkish bazaar and the likes?

would be really cool if it does (and prolly make it worth buying )

Posted by chubbs on Dec-18-2005 06:22:

Yeah it does, heaps of footage of Every Picture, Hardware and other warehouse/docks parties. Lengthy interview with Richie Rich and some other guys that were around in the early 90's and stuff too.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Do many people actually shuffle over there?
It's pretty big in Malaysia and South East Asia too, and it's fairly well known in the UK as well iirc.
