"The United States' Marine Corps has been conducting amphibious operations for 200 years. It's a unique capability and there is no analytical basis for arguing that capability won't be needed in the future," said Loren Thompson, a defense analyst for the Lexington Institute. "Everyone we are likely to fight in the future is going to be close to the sea ... like Iran, like North Korea, like Vietnam,???(WTF?) like almost any place you can mention other than Afghanistan."

i'm sure that had macho north korea sunk the ship, they'd be gloating rather than denying

LOL Yeah, it was staged so that North Korea could turn Seoul into ruins within hours with its 1-million strong army and thousands of artillery pieces within 20 miles of the border. Yes, an EXCELLENT idea! Lets do a Tonkin so that we can invade North Korea and take their ... wait, what does North Korea has? Shit, I am flabbergasted.

On a serious note now - you guys should read this - a FACT, A RECORD of the countless provocations BY North Korea since 1960s - from a reputable source:

quote:
Please note that the conventional provocations we listed herein only include major armed conflicts, military/espionage incursions, border infractions, acts of terrorism including sabotage bombings and political assassinations since the 1960s that resulted in casualties in order to analyze the significance of the attack on the Cheonan and loss of military personnel. This list excludes any North Korean verbal threats and instigation, kidnapping as well as the countrys missile launches and nuclear tests.
