Indeed.

Not really, it happened in the city but it's in the older part near the center or "downtown". I live just outside in one of the suburbs.

Good to here. What is the general feeling there?

Posted by woscar on Jun-01-2010 18:27:

Well, lots of people lost everything they had, including their loved ones. The government isn't prepared at all to handle a situation of this caliber and people are pretty much depending on the help that individuals are willing to provide and aid coming in from other countries. I'm doing all I can to help and will go with some friends to spend the weekend helping on one of the locations but sadly I don't see the same interest in the big majority of people.

That's really unfortunate. I take it there's rather extensive landslide damage and such. Sadly it hasn't made much news up here. I wish you well.

Massive landslides and floods, resulting in entire towns cut-off, no electricity and no water.

Dude, that is insane. Looks like a Michael Bay movie.

Seriously - I think TA is the only place I have heard about the problems in Guatemala. all the news talks about is the oil in the gulf.

This is why you never divide by zero.

"Our recommendation was that this could happen again," he recalled. "When you have water flowing from storm water runoff, a sewage pipe, or any kind of strong flow, it eats away at the loose material. We don't know how long it has to go on before it collapses. But once it starts collapsing, God help us."

Talk about a sinking real estate market, looks like the bottom fell out on that home.

Posted by yukii on Jun-03-2010 22:12:

Wow, that is seriously scary as hell forget getting shot lol

It's a shame the News in the US is the same regurgitated load of crap- I haven't seen anything in regards to Guatemala..

Posted by woscar on Jun-03-2010 22:19:

I know, that sucks. The only place outside of the local news and the internet where I've seen anything on this was on fucking Telemundo.

living in a city built on pumice, near an active volcano, in a swamp, on a fault line, or below sea level is playing with fire
