Yeah, she really wants an iPhone, for the average person it's extremely simple to use, no wonder iPhone became so popular.

I'm slightly pissed off, I like at&t but I can never get the droid Incredible or the HTC Evo wtf! I can only get the iPhone -___- or the Motorola Backflip which is not bad but not good enough for my upgrade (imho)..

What do you guys think? In comparison to iPhones, I REALLY wanted the droid/htc phones.. but I think I'll be shit out of luck for a while..

Posted by shaw on Jun-14-2010 16:06:

Um, leave AT&T. I'm guessing your parents are paying for it, though. Enjoy your Backfliplolol.

You pull it out of your pocket and do what exactly? I have a friend that has the HTC HD II which was the considered the best phone HTC had. Well, it wasn't any good. There is almost no market for HTC or the others. They do NOT give you the opportunity to form your mobile phone in conformity to ones needs. Not to mention that the touch-screen is worse than the iPhone. After a while he switched to an HTC Desire which was the same story. Boring, useless OS.

I give it credit that it looks gorgeous. The screen is large with a great design. Both of them

Second of all. What the fuck is up with all the 4G talk? (like the guy that posted before) Are people kiddin me?

Sweden, which is one of the countries with the most advanced broadband in the world, have BARELY inaugurated 4G about six months ago and they don't even provide it everywhere.

Besides, 3G is barely used to its full extent (in Europe at least), so for the upcoming year or so 4G is a pretentious technology that won't be usable. I even heard that in USA AT&T have problems delivering full 3G support to mobile carriers.

I'm no Apple fanboy, because Steve Jobs is full of shit. But I have to give him credit for making a mobile phone that is accessible, easy to use, easy to convert through the means of apps to how you want it. The design is OK, but nothing more.

My personal belief is that people purchasing these smart-phones primarily do so to get out of the stereotypical apple-trend.

Posted by jester on Jun-14-2010 16:35:

just get both. win win.

Posted by leph555 on Jun-14-2010 16:41:

4G should be in mostly all of the major cities in the US by the end of the year.
3G is fairly perfect here, except for AT&T's problems in SF and NYC.

You might see them as a joke, but they will continue to sell a bunch of them. Which means people do want/use them.

Get an Android phone if you want to customize and tweak your phone. Much like a PC & Windows, be prepared to do your homework. Get an iPhone if you can't be bothered to tweak stuff and you want a product that's stable and stylish.

Since I'm a raging nerd, I'm using a HTC EVO.

Posted by Moongoose on Jun-14-2010 17:19:

3G networks useless in Europe? Wow people that are using their mobiles to watch world cup live during work hours over here will sure love to hear that.

And about the claim that HD2 and/or android devices dont give you the ability to customise your phone? For fucks sake man, which drugs are you on, share some of that you must be accessing alternate dimensions with that shit...Android devices are the ultimate customisable devices, HTC WinMo devices a bit less so, but one can do a lot with SenseUI, on the other hand the only thing you can change on the damn iphone is the order in which the icons appear on the screen and thats about it. If thats enough customisation for you, great some poeple are quite satisfied with the limited options apple provides, for everyone else...theres proper phones out there.

Posted by Rebel Brown on Jun-14-2010 17:38:

If (or more likely, when) you jailbreak your iPhone, you can customise it to your heart's content.

HTC and android have heaps of phones out at the moment, i'm hoping to get a HTC desire soon, but this one looks sweet as too

the other good thing about the androids is that there are a number of differences between the phones, so you can choose your option, rather than with the iphone... 1 choice of hardware, one choice for software... android has a few hardware options, and heaps of software options, each of which you can customise... you can also hack androids and chuck on roms etc if you're a big enough nerd

htc sucks balls

Motorola has a lot of shitty phones. The Backflip is one of them. Do not buy.

These are the exact people I have recommended the iPhone to as of late.

Yep, that is correct. Everything else they do quite well for the most part.

She should get a proper smartphone then. One from Nokia lets say. The first onscreen option available after taking a pic is Send via (MMS, email, BT, IR...)

Really i feel sorry for the americans, living in the dark for so long without access to interesting phones before the iphone came out while over here the average user jumped on the smartphone bandwagon way back in 2002 (ahh my dear Nokia 7650, how i miss you) and business users even before that.

Because, you know, HTC Sense (TouchFlo) doesn't give that option. :/

The Androids I wanted were not capable of going international, so I had to side with the iPhone for this reason only.

Which ones were they? Must have all been the Sprint or Verizon ones?

Well its nokia im the most familliar with so my first though went to that but i take your point. Today its impossible to not be able to attach a pic to a message no matter who you are. If my grandfather could do it, there is no excuse for anyone else not to.

I'll give you the benfit of the doubt. I'm a med-school student. I need applications that can provide information about diseases, atlases and so on. Can HTC services provide those kind of apps?

Posted by aNYthing on Jun-15-2010 14:17:

I suffered through 3 generations of iPhone before ditching it for HTC evo. Everyone covered the topic well on both sides. Here is my take, as a technology geek that works in IT:

IPhone is a nicely polished smartphone. Android is an ultraportable computer.

I can use my evo as a 4 mbps router for up to 8 systems, navigation system, sirius or shoutcast player and download or upload files to local storage... all at the same time. Megaupload set 250 gb? No problem. Download directly to SD card at about 150 - 300kbps, play it when done.

App store has just about anything you'd want. Oh, and I can reply to email or search or write a memo simply by speaking into a microphone.

And when it is totally out of juice, I can swap the battery. Does it have flaws? Sure but not anywhere near iPhone, even the latest gen.

You show your ignorance, yet again and backpeddle because you know fuck all what you are talking about. Just admit that you fucked up and are clueless in any regard that you claimed to know about.

As for the apps, check the market place in both Windows Mobile and Android. HTC has NOTHING to do with these. They are both apps that are now part of the OS. Although, from what I know of, you have to download the app for the app store on all WinMo 6.1 devices from the MS website.

And that abusage of profanities really showed me that I was wrong. Instead of offering some decent, cleanly written explanation like aNYthing did. I wrote my views on the 3G system and you started a crusade of swearing against me.

Congratulations. You're the self-acclaimed mobile-phone expert of a music forum. Too bad you're an ass-hat.
