I got my 1000mk3s for 625 each. From an authorised reseller in 2006.

Deal of the decade I say.

I'm disliking CDJs more and more as time goes by.

i'll be so upset if a 950 comes out, i just got my 900's two months ago

I don't get this. Pioneer just seem to be flooding the market with well made but poorly conceived ideas. It's seems every so often they get it right (800's, 1000's) but then they jack the prices up, discontinue them and bring out a "superior" model which costs more for a tiny bit of extra functionality.

I paid $500 for my CDJ800 mk2, 80 for my CDJ 100 (still going strong after 8 years).

So I go in to my local GC and look at the 900. It's nearly $1400. I ask how much for the 850 and it turns out to be $900.

How the fuck has adding usb functionality and a slightly different screen to a CDJ800 added the best part of $500 (what I paid for my 800mk2 new) to the price for the CDJ850?

I don't think I know of any other companies that fuck with their consumer base so much by altering their products and price points. I'm beginning to think they are just trying to make people get used to upgrading their DJ equipment every year.

Well, fuck that. my 1200 mk5g's will be staying put for another 10 years and the only thing I might buy is another 800 mk2 or a 1000 mk3 if some numptys decide to flood ebay with "outdated" equipment so they can have the latest pioneer marketing trick.

Don't get me wrong, I like their products when they get it right but fuck me, they really do like to fuck with their customers.

totally agree with your post

pio knows they own the market so they just take advantage of it by gouging us

a&h has their market too, don't get me wrong, but I feel it's comparable to the mac vs. pc debate

regardless, the lack of being able to link two cdj 850s together is a huge fault...

Interesting analogy above.

100% Agree with both of you.

Sometimes i'm nearly happy the units cost as much as they do so that people like us tell them to get fucked. Imagine the damage they could do if they dropped their prices even a little.

The main problem with their units is that they rarely decrease in price.
Where as the weak dollar-Yen was at fault for an initial price hike I very much doubt the prices will be reduced if trading starts to favour Pioneer again.

That is exactly right, and it really pisses me off. As mentioned, when I got my cdj800 mk2 I paid $500 for it (rrp $599), then the currency exchange went south so they jack up the prices by $200.

Now the exchange rate has got better, in comparable levels to what it was before the hike, there's no sight of price reductions from pioneer.

So instead they bring out a new model which obfuscates the fact the old model should again be cheaper. The new model hides the extra cost in new features.

But my brain goes, hang on, according to moores law, technology gets better over time and cheaper, so even if it is a new model with more features, it should not cost more or at least only increase relative to inflation, which in this climate should actually be a decrease in prices.

but you're right, imagine if they cut costs on the CDJ 850 so it's rrp was around $600.

It would absolutely destroy all the other brands on the market in terms of market share.

But no, pioneer would prefer to flood the market with new models that probably end up costing them a lot of money (r&d, marketing, production, supply, shipping, etc.) and that's why the newer models cost more, as they have to cover these costs.

Well said. End of discussion. I'm tempted to close this thread (i joke of course)

just to throw in an idea, at least to me I feel like there is an increasingly growing market of people interested in dj equipment that know absolutely nothing about djing. I feel like now, more than ever, everyone wants to be a dj and go an impulse buy whatever is new and has bells and whistles.

i use bells and whistles

100% Right, Pionner want's more money form existing customers
technology is the secound priority here ...

I think that it was mach more easy for people to decide:
or the cdj 400 (for exemple) or the 2000.

i belive that those who boguht the 900 really want's the 2000...

How well does Denon DN-HS5500CD compare with CDJ850? I love the Direct Drive Motor of Denon HS5500 and HS500CD. I know CDJ's cant offer that kind of thrill but otherwise in features, usability and not to forget the cost?
