i think everyone knows that this thread is full of irony.
loops are the best and everyone should use it.

At the end of the day i would rather be guilty of using loops that a handful of people can name versus hundreds or thousands of drunk, wiped out clubbers going bonkers to your track with no care in the world what made the sounds.

I use loops pal, often just a small part or sclice of it, i mostly try to cut out claps and any thing that will clash with the kick usually just a bit of sc, i always use my own claps hi hat patterns and percusive elements tho on top, but without the backing loops Everything usually sounds too minimal so for me loops work a treat!

Yeah, I've never been opposed to using loops and usually layer in percussion loops anyway. This was the first time though that my drums were nearly all (aside from the kick/clap) done using loops, sorta like this....

And I'm quite happy with the results. I won't be making a habit of it though - I love my Maschine too much!

Just as long as its not a loop that includes its own kick drum. that my friend is a heresy indeed.

I filtered out the kick drums (and snares/claps to some extent) and used other one-shots (probably also from Vengeance).

a production pet hate of mine is kick drums in loops, just never bother with them... i mean i'm always gonna make my own kick for a track. no matter what. so why put them in.

seriously though using loops is fine, everyone does it, just not all admit it as long as the energy and rhythm is there and the melody is great no-one is gonna care that you used loop 56 from VEC2 or whatever.

I to have the same thoughts but it does happen. I dont sit there trying to remember sample packs lol. But when I hear a track sometimes I recognise a sound or a loop. I mean the amount of time you flick through your own sample packs and re-listen to stuff things become familiar and you soon recognise some, not all obviously. Now combine this with everyone else doing the same and i'm sure most sounds can be picked out depending on how the sound is presented in the track.

I sometimes hear something in the sample packs and remember it from a track. Goes to show when you get such over use of common sample cd's like the Vengeance ones these things easily happen. Not always a good thing though.

@Cryophonik: When I first started writing music, I refused to use loops and/or synth presets. Friends of mine would pull kicks and other samples out of released tracks, and it disgusted me. So, I learned how to create everything the hard way, and it served me very well. I learned alot! Nowadays, though, I don't care. If a loops works, then great, I'll use it. Same goes for a preset. In one way, I feel like a paid my dues, and I know I can create almost any sound I want, so I don't feel like I'm cheating. And on the other hand, this music was spawned from samples and loops, so that's justification enough. I feel the same way about using Traktor. I learned on vinyl years ago, I can beatmatch, but fuck it, let the program do it for me and I'll give more of my attention to other, more important, aspects of a set.
