Stephen, if you knew for certain that you would never make a living from music, and that you would never become the next Paul Oakenfold or even get anywhere close, would you still love making music?

That's two questions.....

#1 - Yes - I make plenty of money from my day job.

#2 - No. I wouldn't love it and be as avid as I am to try and be something, but I would still play my records and vinyl and make tracks every once in a while. I wouldn't be pouring thousands into music production though. Yea, it's a dream. Probably won't happen, but you've gotta be in it to win it.

Sorry if I rub you the wrong way. Time is a big problem for me. If you read the other thread where it asks what is hindering you most, you'll see my reply....it's one word. "Time"

I'm sorry but I don't have time to hold down a day job, keep a girlfriend satisfied, be a professional composer, professional sound designer, professional mixing engineer, and stay in the loop on the business aspect of things.

You have to cut strings somewhere. I want a taste of everything. I just don't see anything wrong with asking people to create presets. Thousands of them come with synths. I think you are under the impression that I would use the presets exactly as made, without altering them to my artistic taste, which is a false assumption.

The prices were set at what they were for two reasons.

#1 - I was told by someone who could design all those sounds, but it wasn't worth his time, that anybody worth their salt could crank them out in an hour. Therefore my goal was to keep inferior desigeners away and only attract superior sound designers. For what it's worth, I received over 10 emails from the same post over at Gearslutz. Not only that, but multiple want to create custom sounds for me on a regular basis in bulk. Not sure if I need THAT many sounds. I'm just a nostalgic trancer missing some of those famous sounds that are tucked away in sound modules nobody uses anymore and I want to have those sounds in my hands. I'm just not good enough to design them myself. Most of my patches I create that I deem "good" and usable are mostly done by experimentation and sometimes accident. It's always a learning experience. I can't hear a sound and automatically know the osc count, the detune count, filter and amp envelopes, etc like others can, and while I think that's amazing that people can do that, it's just not something I personally feel I must learn to do or else I'm not an artist.

It's just a phrase I use for playing the lottery. "You gotta be in it to win it". It's a metaphor saying you must formulate a personal plan and have confidence and bust your ass to even have a chance to be acknowledged these days.
