Finally had the time to listen to this set for a second time. During the first listen I had the same impression of Sand Leaper and ziptnf, but I now changed my mind and even though I think the first third of the set is the best one, I think the second third holds it own. However I have to agree with montana about something not exactly working as it should after Ajare. Templedrum was an okaish choice, but I am not really sure Poseidon and Space Shanty did fit too well in that part of the set. Loved the ending though.
Nothing really to say technically, everything was pretty much flawless.

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one.

Ha, didn't know that. The Submerged mix is pretty well known because it was on Northern Exposure. I used the Spiritual Thirst version because it's a bit different without losing what made the Submerged mix great.

The transition between Poseidon and Space Shanty is definitely the most half-assed of all of them. Thanks for the feedback anyway - and I mean that for everyone. In a way I prefer it when people have criticisms, even minor ones, because it shows people are being thoughtful and aren't just doling out praise to be friendly.

I've given this one listen, right after you posted it, but haven't had a chance to give it a second listen yet since it's a bit hard to find a full two hours to listen straight. I'll definitely have some feedback, though

Although I didn't really leave much feedback in my initial response to this, I understand your likings for getting constructive criticsm but honestly I generally don't just give out positive feedback for the sake of coming across as friendly. I do give thought to the music I take in. However I can't articulate my thoughts as well as yourself and others on this board and I don't intend to make posts that seem like cliche sounding responses.
I thoroughly enjoyed this mix, I listen to a lot of varied dance music and know what I like and don't like. The mix didn't bore me at all, you've clearly put in time and effort not just with the choice of music but the way you've constructed it, it's simply not a disposable mix in my eyes or should I say ears. There's just not much here that I can find to criticise, but that's not all I'm looking for either when I listen to a mix. I'd much rather listen to a well played set of older tracks than current ones where it's much more unlikely to have had the same amount of time put into the entire set. I guess I could say that with older tunes, you get much more time to put thought into the selecting and placing of the tracks. Although it does happen with new stuff, just not as often I find. (I hope this makes some sort of sense!)
Why try and focus solely on the negative aspects of a mix when it's far outweighed by the positive?

Don't worry mate, I'm not doubting the sincerity of people who don't type out minor niggles, and I'm not gunning for more extensive feedback. No mix I've ever shared has been perfect, so I expect some people to have some criticisms. But if everyone is complaining, I've done a shit job.

Somebody 'splain how I missed this!? Looks like so much win.

I've got a new mix coming up in a few days, so I thought I'd give this one last bump. It's starting to feel distinctly autumnal around here, so this won't get many plays in the coming months.

I had a listen to this last week at work.
Trackwise nothing mad new, some old classics that still does the job here.
I actually prefered the latter half of the mix more than the first part. Mainly because I prefered the flow in the second half than the first half. It really takes off around the Dominion track and onwards. I would personally have chosen Way out West - Domination (Muroroa mix)in this set as that track would had been excellent in the middle of this mix. Fiji into Helopolis looks odd but works out really well as mix-finishers.

Mixingwise it's as you mention in the first post; These kind of old tracks are not the easiest to mix. Some of the transitions are rough and quick. Ajare->Templedrum for instance. And a couple of others are also a bit too quick.
Overall good effort.

The reason I didn't use Domination is because I've already played it, way back on Spirit Of '95. I never use the same track twice, although I sometimes use different versions. There would have been more epic house on this mix if I hadn't used a lot of it before.

I tried my best with Ajare - I actually start mixing in Templedrum during the last break - but there is just no way to avoid that sudden ending.

Thanks for listening anyway, and I'm glad the second half is getting some love.

Now I see why you liked the Sasha inspired Cream Classics mix I did! This looks epic will have a listen later.

Yeah, there are a lot of tracks here that Sasha played, and when I'd put it together I realised there was a lot of parallels to Northern Exposure in particular. That said, I was listening to The FSOL, William Orbit, Banco De Gaia, Leftfield and BT years before I got into Sasha.

Jack this mix is utterly immense! Yesterday and today I finally managed to get through the whole thing and wow! It's really good! Fantastic selection of tracks and great mixing and flow to boot. I'm definitely going to take the time to study up on the track list in order to become familiar with who made those tracks and where they came from (with the exception of a few, which I know/own). But yea, not much more that needs to be said\. It was a really enjoyable two hours (even if they needed to be broken into 3 40-minute segments).

edit: I guess the one thing I liked the most about the music itself is how organic, unforced, sort of natural it felt. Like it's not over-produced or over-compressed like a most tracks these days, and there's just a quality to both their construction and overall sound that you don't find today. I guess maybe it's just time to stop trying to find today's equivalent of that kind of music since it just doesn't exist, especially at this tempo.

Also, what other mixes of yours are more like this?

Oh man, this is totally the wrong time of year to be playing this mix. I'm planning a sequel that's going to continue the summer mood, but in a very different way.

As for other mixes like this... did you check out the epic house mixes? I would have used a lot of those tracks in here if I hadn't already played them. You can also hear how my mixing's come on in the last three years.

Kind of depends where you live, no? But really those epic house mixes are still my favourite mixes of yours. This mix is also up there but I think I just appreciate the epic house mixes for the fact that you've opened me up to some really special music that I had no previous exposure to and that there isn't really any music being produced in the same fashion. Although that's also a good thing in some respects.

The links are down currently. Stu might have uploaded them at some point, but otherwise I'll have to re-up them later.

I listened to this twice this week. There is something about tracks of this genre from the mid 90's when they are just right that I really enjoy.

As far as sets go, it was good. But it wasn't the next level journey I was hoping for. I think it needed more diversity and a few more energetic tracks. The high point for me was Way Out West - Ajare, which I realized how great a track it is while listening to it in the set. I also enjoyed Sven Vath - L'Esperanza, especially the flute part. The Future Sounds Of London - Papua New Guinea is a classic and one of the first electronic tracks I listened to, though no originality points for that one (no points off either though). Dance 2 Trance - We Came In Peace (1991 Mix), Desert - Moods (Desert Dub) and BT - Poseidon were a couple more that caught my ear.

Overall a good listen. I don't have any complaints about the mixing. I found a few tracks through this set that I liked that I did not know about before. I get the sense you care about the music you play and I look forward to listening to more of your mixes.

I would do this set quite differently now, I have a lot more tracks that I'd use in the second half.

Sushipunk's link still works, lost this a while ago, it was probably my favorite mix from you.

The two opening tracks and transition on this mix blow me away every. single. time.
