Pretty fun night, and the crowd was hyped.
I enjoyed Audrey's set much more than Umek's.

That's too bad... Umek killed it in the last half... his start was kind of blah though.
Audrey was good but she hit it a bit hard so early.

I really enjoyed Audrey N. energy throughout her set and so did the crowd. Not to say Umek was bad in comparison... he was definitely good, but I simply enjoyed his set less. Umek's energy was through the roof, but to me his set lacked variation & flow, and I ultimately lost interest after hearing one titanic breakdown after the next.
Like I said in my previous post; it was a fun night. Props to Voyeur for solid bookings.

Umek killed it for sho!!! He was playing techno proper and there was def change and variation!!!
Unlike HOuse tech House, and trance, techno can be very driven by its Drum Lines and Basslines with the groove where naturally House and trance has groove, but generally is driven by melody and hook. In San Diego i have notice that we as a generally community are driven by the sounds of tech house, house, electro, and some trance and its all about the variation of melody and moving people up n down through harmonic variation.
"Much of the instrumentation in techno emphasizes the role of rhythm over other musical parameters, but the design of synthetic timbres, and the creative use of music production technology in general, are important aspects of the overall aesthetic practice...
Unlike other forms of EDM that tend to be produced with synthesizer keyboards, techno does not always strictly adhere to the harmonic practice of Western music and such strictures are often ignored in favor of timbral manipulation alone. The use of motivic development (though relatively limited) and the employment of conventional musical frameworks is more widely found in commercial techno styles, for example Euro-trance, where the template is often an AABA song structure."Wikipedia
So, basiclly techno is percussion based!!! Vs. house-base genres are Melodic.
This is why many people in san diego lose interest when big proper techno is playing and they don't usually get excited til the drops!!! Their ears are tuned to variations in harmonics and melody versus the feeling of the rhythms and groove.
but thats my .02
