but unlike the foundation of a house, in EDM , you don't need a chord progression. You can just stay on the same root note and still make something interesting as I have argued before because really, what is changing in music and making music interesting is not chords or melodies but rather production and sound design. It is nice if you can do both but I really strongly believe that harmony is not as important as production and soundesign . It sounds weird coming from someone that has dedicated alot of time to mastering all those elements but I accept the fact that harmony and melody are not new and have been pretty much explored to their fullest.

Yeah i agree 100% and i have made plenty tracks myself which doesnt contain a single chord.

I suppose it would be nice if producers were interested in more aspects of music so that you could have both worlds combined in a way that wasn't so obvious and mediocre.

This is an interesting convo...

I don't think at all that chord progressions are only the basis for a good track, I think that good melodies and progressions ARE a good track, as long as the production is sufficiently good not to be distracting.

But I also think that you can have a great track without melody, a more percussive track perhaps.

I think my point is, IF you're going to have the melody front and centre (as you usually do in trance) then you'd better make sure its a good one, and an original one, because otherwise your tracks are going to be boring. My point is, IF you're doing melody, then make it original, otherwise leave it out, or just treat it as a side issue, rather than making it the focus.

totally agree with you there. If you are going to go with harmony and melody, put some effort into it so it isn't completely mundane.

I wish I agreed with my own posts, but since I just make it up as I'm typing it, it's all just gibberish anyway.

not a drop. I've been on these new anti depressants and I am all over the place. These SSRI's sort of block your serotonin reuptake receptors and can sort of mimic the feeling of a hit of ecstasy. I actually lied on my girlfriend and pre-emptively tried to cuddle. I'm pretty sure turning queer is not one of the expected side effects but god damn, i'm as gay as purple dinosaur.

Mad for Brad quoting himself and agreeing with himself provided me the most genuine laugh I've ever had browsing this forum. Funnier than the usual c0r. In a way.

if only I had disagreed. That would of made the icing that much sweeter.
