Mid Range MBP.
XE.com tells me the macbook pro i'd want to get if i were to get another one would cost me 1438 in America. The equivalent WOWSERS.. lol i was writing this post as i was checking the prices as I thought I remembered the price being around the 1799 mark but maybe I just had the wrong figure in my head as it's 1999.
That's a 39% increase buying that machine in Ireland.
With an educational discount i could get that down to 1799. Still pretty ridiculous.
UK prices,
American cost : 1248 (in sterling xe.com)
UK cost: 1649
32% increase.

I bought a sony vaio z and kicks the absolute shit over MBP's. It's got more grunt than any laptop on the market, has an excellent design, IS LIGHT (3 lbs! = 1.3kg) that's almost as light as a mac air with a lot more power than a MPB.
It's sexy as all hell and the perfect size for uni, djing, work because the resolution can be 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 as well as SSD harddrives bluray core i5/i7.
The mac sack riders somehow follow this idea that mac's are seamless and easy to set up. I guess they haven't tried windows 7 but it is piss easy to set up and you don't have to worry about drivers or even the many incompatability software issues you get with mac. It's the best investment i ever made in regards to technology and i couldn't possibly consider any alternative. Try it out in a sony store and see what i mean. You can see the Japanese engineering really take pride in their design from a technical and aesthetic standpoint.
I also got to mention that this thing is a bloody tank! I have dropped it clumsily 4 times on CONCRETE from my van drivers seat (5ft) and i shat myself every single time it dropped. Yes i know i should take better care with a pricey gadget but it somehow miracously doesn't even show any signs of damage except for some of the stainless steel that got chipped away from the impact. Seriously this thing is like the technics 1200 of the laptop world. Nothing can beat it. Nothing.
and runs windows
just kidding man.
