2004 was the first, last, and only time I really ever enjoyed a PvD performance out of the 8 or so times I've went to see him. The other times I still managed to have some fun hanging out with friends since many of my friends always come out for PvD.
agreed

Actually.... I could have seen him but didn't because I didn't enjoy his productions (with the exception of Tilt vs. Paul van Dyk Rendezvous Quadraphonic Mix), they were decent but very anti-climatic for me (I'm not into vocals, and his tracks lacked the epic build ups, break downs, and drops that euphoric Trance was recognized for at the time). Back then I was more into Oakie, Tiesto, Ferry, and even Armin. The first time I went to see him I was kinda dragged by a TA (Joey) and surprisingly had a good time. Had it not been for that I probably would have never went to go see him at all because I had no desire to.
If he was so amazing back then, then yea I would definitely think much differently and it would likely make me even more disappointed in him now.

wait a sec....you're judging a DJ by his productions aspects???
his sets back then started at 136bpms and only got faster and harder
the TWILO nights could never be duplicated

I was thinkign the same thing. His nights at TWILO were epic and can never be duplicated. Never again since those days has any club night come close to those days. Maybe PVD crobar closing was close but nothing like the TWILO days. All the djs that played there for that matter. Thats when clubbin was clubbin and Djs were still DJs and came to rock the house. Now its like a concert more than a club experience. Back then it was all about layin it down. Every dj that came to those decks in Twilo knew that they better bring their A game and nothing else. Shit PVD would come on at 2am and play till 10am and doing encores with the lights on and still a packed house haha. Carl Cox and DT doing tag teams and the club was open until 3pm the next day haha. Sasha and digweed the list goes on. Twilo was the best and will always be the best.

Yes, I WAS! Key word being "WAS". I was looking at these shows as if they were concerts. Would you go see a artist if you didn't like his songs?
This was way before I was properly educated. Back then (99) I was going to random clubs not even knowing who the DJ was or what kind of music he would be playing. I always loved the music since 97 (but was too young to get in the clubs without fake ID or sneaking in until 99...Palladium was the only place that didn't card me in 97), but half the time I wasn't even aware of when DJ's I did like were playing somewhere near me. Now you can go ahead and judge me or pity me for missing these allegedly epic nights but since I was not there during that evening I don't have any opinion on them good or bad, but it is still not going to change my mind on what type of music appeals to me and I still stand by my comments.
I have been to Twilo once and only once, and it was not during a PVD night...it was Sasha. It was pretty amazing!

Faster and harder are not the only elements that make a set. My standards require a bit more than just fast and hard.

I may beat the dead horse but what he did in SoundFactory smokes the Crobar Closing party out of the water

TWILO was a clubber's club
:::waits for Yumpop's reply on how TWILO sucked:::

Yeah i always seem to forget about that sound factory party. But yes it was insanity becuase i remeber he had not played here since Twilo closed and it was well over a year and then finalllyyyy. That line to get in was insane that night haha. Thank god i was a freak and had to hear every second of every beat so i was there early as hell and one of the last to leave haha.

Paul Van Dyk has to get his shit together I agree. He is in LALA land with his 10 year vandit year. I hope he comes back next year with some new tunes. I think he will. We shall see. The Twilo days were the best years for New York! That club was great. Did I just open up a war by saying this? lol

No chance, he always takes some time off before his yearly vandit/berlin party. I think he should be back in late February/early march.
