Seriously Eddie...not tryin' to knock you but, you left an extensive criticism about muy 1 minute plus intro to something I have just started (new to this shit)...New shit I'm just starting to work with...Never in my head did I think I could compete with you after reading your comment....Though you did give me some pointers much appreciated, after listening to just 5 minutes (much too long) of whatever you call this...I find it rather...dumbifying...Maybe you have classified this as breakbeat..but to me this would be something danceable if you have a group of drug addicts passing around whatever you guys do, And listen to this crap just because everybody is High and you are probably supplying whatever such group is in to. They tell you what you want to hear in order to get whatever you are supplying...Now I realize what you meant when you could'nt come up with shit like mine...Why even comment when your shit doesn't even reach my ankles? I know I will get comments from your boys who digest your shit just for great comments from you but, gimme a fuckin' break. Your shit will play in a bar around 6am...when everybody is stoned out of their minds!!!..Sorry but I have to agree with Mad for Brad on this one! Only for this post...Haven't heard any other of your posts but seriously inclining not to, after what I heard on this one...If you have anything close or upto par with my minute and a half...please feel free to PM me so I can take a listen.

Mad4Brad has credibility, at least. I think he sometimes squanders it and if I react poorly to something he says, it's because I respect him. You have a song with '80's sensibilities, a bad case of ear fatigue, and no reading comprehension skill.

for what it is worth, I was in a bad mood and I tend to become Simon Cowell. I don't feel goos knowing what I said hurt you. I tend to assume everyone wants to be a miserable professional.

Well, I do respect you and, because you don't hear the shiny glory of my epic master-piece with the ear that I do, doesn't negate the potential for it being a complete and total wank-fest. I kind of figured you were in a bit of a foul mood, but I also don't want to discount the validity of your opinion by blaming it on you being in a foul mood. Things are what they are.

Thanks.

Eddie, you never should be sorry for your creation - it is yours and only yours with your view and your way of expressing it - be proud and keep working/learning/improving and good thinks will happen - just believe in yourself.

Cheers form your friend.

I liked the fist 40...but after around that point I just couldn't listen on...It all sounds very similar and I suppose my ADD brain can't handle much more than 30 mins of something that sounds the same. (Or very subtley similar)

For what it is, it's cool!...An hour long track is pretty beastly work! But I think there has to be some sort of progression...logical progression that would make sense to everyone...

Some of the transition work could be looked at as well...

Some of the melodic changes like at 11:00 are hard to listen to and end up pulling me out of the music repeatadly. Might be the strong dissonance or discordant harmonies holding tension for too long...

Or I find the track being nicely set in chordally but there will be some overlying synth causing some disturbance (21:08).

Might try ever-so-slightly seating that synth into the background a bit more on the transitions. (the underlying one at say 22:40 was nice)

Guess I did listen a bit further than I thought...

Synths at 37:00 didn't quite fit for me and noted it as something that pulled me out of the song more than once.

Something like the synth at 49:45 was pleasant. If you could maybe find a better array of "cool" sounds (using it in warm/cold context) to compliment your percs / mellow style, that would benefit future tracks I think.

Paging through, best part in it's entirety was I think from 59:00 onwards. Again, good use of "cool" sounds like the piano and softer synths, rather than the warm ones. Harmonies were nice and calm rather than discordant which caused a bit of passive listening discomfort for me.

So to tl;dr : I think you' benefit most from a more concise progression to a key point or theme, something memorable otherwise it comes acrossed as meandering and without focus. I'd try to make more effective use of the dissonance for tension purposes, and try not to have it going all of the time. Some parts of that track did end up stressing me out a bit...

So there's my dolla fitty worth, good/bad ugly, basically the notes I wrote down while I listened...Hope it's useful mr. Eddie

I get what you're saying. To be honest, this was a proof of concept exploration as well as reconnaissance mission. While some of your comments seem to pertain to stylistic elements I like and would keep, I also think you picked up on some places where I was forcing myself out of the corner I had worked myself into. I was also, since it was an unorthodox undertaking to begin with, going outside of my normal modus operandi and aiming for something that was a bit challenging - if not for the listener than for myself.

Regardless, there's a huge lists of lessons learned I'm already thinking about for my next venture. I'm glad you listened to the whole thing, though. There was one person who listened to it, twice, but still didn't think it lived up to its potential. I definitely appreciate your insights, though.

Thanks, man. I'll stop well short of ever apologizing for it. While I hope everyone who listens to it enjoys it and that it is never widely regarded as a random assemblage of musical syllogisms, I basically started it to find out if I could finish it, what it would take to do so, and learn what I could, along the way. Maybe it's not Emmy material, but I still think it's well worth the price it's selling for.

I wouldn't really call this breakbeat.. it's actually hard to nail in any one specific genre. Ambient, some breakbeat yes, but I would just really call this experimental chillout, or something of that nature. It's bizarre, and sounds unstructured almost. Fitting for what it is, I suppose. Personally it would drive me absolutely mental if I had to listen to the entire track for whatever reason - for one I'm biased and don't really dig this style of music to begin with, and secondly I didn't find this song even remotely memorable or appealing.

I also don't really understand why it needs to be 65 minutes.. this could have been at a healthy 5-10 minute mark, and sustained much more energy (or lack there of) and/or emotion than forcing the listener to sit through a useless repetition of essentially the same thing over and over again. Rhodes keyboards playing awkward phrases with no real melodic purpose behind a choppy beat for over an hour is useless and does nothing for the song's integrity. After 3 minutes I found myself tuning it out entirely and completely lost where it was going. Considering you seem like a man of brute honesty, I assume you would appreciate this more than anyone. I also find it quite ironic and humourous that you troll and rip on a lot of people's music here in spite of the fact that your own tracks could make a sloth yawn. But like I've said, you can't please everybody.

Happy producing!

super deep stuff, I like the bit that starts around 19 min, really airy

The mix is a problem for me, I think its waay too quiet and some of the sounds(like the kick) conflict with other sounds

other than that really creative stuff man, congrats

Well, basically, I thought Armin might need to take an extended bathroom break so I wrote this really long single...

Wait a minute. I didn't really set out to make a single, did I? No. What was it I set out to do? Let's look at the thread title as it's listed, shall we?

Well, I certainly didn't set out to count to three, so we can rule those numbers out, right now. I'm not even sure what they mean, but I didn't make them.

Well, this isn't really a thread about postal systems and I know my knowledge about post delivery is about as thick as the shrewd logic you've used to impugn my magnum opus, so I can rule out that, too.

Hrmmm... Now this is confusing... What does this little arrow on the left mean? Could it be my "Superstition" single sales are plummeting on Beatport? Well, I know, for a fact, that TA isn't so heavily integrated with Beatport that the ratings are tied in digitally with any work which would appear, here. Again, we can rule this out.

Now, we are left with three words. How cryptic! Since you've decided that your knowledge of musical genres surpasses my own and because the general meaning of things is already so munged up by marketing hyperbole like Dub, Step, Tech, Progressive, and Uplifting, I think it's safe to say that the word in brackets, whatever that means, can be ruled out.

Now, what do we have left?

Ah ha!

Two words, on of which will surely clarify this issue, once and for all... What are they? Supper? No. Super? Super what? Super Tissue? Wait. That would make three words... OOOH! Superstition - the name of my would be, hour long single so Tiesto can take an extra long Jesus pose.

I'm a little lost, here, since I don't think it's possible for me to go about making a superstition which lasts over an hour even though I have heard that if you break a mirror, the consequences can last seven years.

I don't know. It's just too specific. A superstition which lasts one hour, five minutes, and 59 seconds. But then it would need something to pertain to and since it's digital audio and not magical thinking, Superstition doesn't really fit the bill.

EUREKA!!!

I'm confident I've resolved this issue and while it might not satisfy your consternation, I'm almost positive I set out to make one of these. Not a single. Not an EP. Nope. It was an album.

Glad I could help you out, there and thanks for your support.

That's definitely something I'll be working on finessing in future endeavors. After tehlord pointed out the kicks in my second version were a little oppressive, I really tried to pull the kicks down in relation to the rest of the instrumentation but I also wanted to keep a lot of back-ground and ambiance so I was hesitant about putting a lot of stuff up in volume. Some of it also has to do with the means I used to get audio rendered in the first place and the fact that I rendered leads with the back-ground so didn't have that much volume control over the project as it neared completion.

Regardless, thanks a ton for the kudos, the feedback and for listening.

Well ive been stuck at my house, absoloutley bored outa my mind ... I see your link i press play i think, this is sounding really good, but an hour long, i will probably end up turning it off after 5 mins because i'm in one of those "don't know what to do next bored" moods.

But you know what ...

I listened to the whole damn thing, and man, total respect to you, it kept me hooked for the 65 mins it was on ... I couldnt possibly comment on the technical side of things as it was "Very Pleasurable" background music ... But it certainly hit the spot, total respect to you man, for doing this..

At times it reminded me of early Chemical Brothers work, and that is No bad thing!

Thanks for sharing this man, appreciated!

Yes, I understand the whole album bit. Thanks for the epic super zoom on that one to clarify. As I said, some people go too far out of their way to ensure their trolling is paid attention to. (ie. taking the time to take all those zoom shots, uploading them onto photobucket, embedding them into your post, all to make yourself look like a smart ass) I will apologize in advance for angering the troll.

Anyhow, considering your "album" played straight through, and there were no defined breaks in the music to really give the sense of a new song starting, or any dramatic change in song structure or dynamic at all, it was essentially 65 minutes of the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over... you get the picture. But I'm not going to troll about it or get pissy pants and go on a self-righteous power trip over it. Oh, and your vocabulary or use of cute derogatory metaphors doesn't make you any more credible when rebuttling oh so graciously. You more or less make yourself look like a degenerate spending all his free time on forums ripping on people's music with a dictionary, while being thoroughly incapable of producing something of equal merit like you so zealously defend. And hell, if you're going to knock Tiesto for sitting in front of 20,000 people while doing the jesus pose or the crucifix, let me know when you have a sold out air hangar to DJ at and we'll all be sure to go so we can critique how your stage presense is in comparison. Kudos to him for whatever it is he's doing, he's done well for himself and I'm sure people would still go see him regardless of what he does on stage. Ripping on someone's stage presense doesn't do anything for your argument, or change the fact that the only thing I got from listening to your "album" was a beard.

Yes. Anyone who disagrees with you is a troll. So, you're disagreeing with me, hence you are trolling?

And, while I was posting I was also working on and finishing another magnum opus. I wasn't certain I would post it, in here, but since I apparently need an alibi for the ego you've so ruthlessly torched:

Snare Attack by DeepEddieZilker

Let me guess! Too short, isn't iTTTTTTTT!?!?!

Seriously, dude. You're taking this far, far too personally. I've given you credit for the production gloss I'm still trying to work towards. I didn't like what you did with your work and thought you could do better with your clear talent. I'm almost certain part of you feels the same way about your own work given the effort you're devoting to controlling my own perception about mine.

This album has rightfully earned a round thrashing for the kicks being too loud, for it being too repetitive in too many places, and for a host of other issues, all of which I've absorbed and considered. You're another person who's posting in this thread who's pissed because we don't see eye to eye on the quality of your work. Consequently, you're belaboring the issue, hopefully supposing I'll shamefully rescind my erstwhile comments or at least be exposed as some fraudulent critic who can't put his money where his mouth is.

You're right mate. This has gone too far.. I digress and apologize. Just didn't really appreciate your initial approach when you commented on my track, it was 99% slander and 1% critique. I mean, if you genuinely don't like something then all the power to ya, but the overall message was a bit over the top I thought. As we're both aspiring producers, your feedback didn't serve as a very nice welcome to this community. I didn't expect everyone to like what I had to offer obviously, but I also didn't expect to be essentially dragged through the dirt upon opening the flood gates. At least give me some warning that your corn flakes were sabotaged this morning before hand, haha.

Sall good.. I guess everyone needs to vent once in a while or what not. No harm done.
Happy producing.

FWIW, it's customary for everyone who joins to get their chops busted, at some point. Also, your work sounds a little too slick for you to just be aspiring. Take care.

You think YOUR welcome was harsh... I got eaten alive, chewed up, threw up and then fed to hyenas xD

I still like your track, though

I've listened 3 times over the past few weeks in between the times I had a soundcard and the times I didn't. I wrote down some thoughts as I journeyed along the hour or so:

Gorgeous mood throughtout the first 10 mins. Serves well as a relaxing experience. I thought the kick was a little jumpy, but I eventually became more tolerant to it as I went along.

When I hit around 12 minutes things became a little drawn-out. Repetitive, but it could well serve as nice background stuff. I found this to be the case up until 20 mins or so when it slowly transistions.

The section arriving around 30 mins was delightful. I especially enjoyed when the vocal and absolutely fantastic build up played together around 33 mins. Definitely one of my favourite parts from the album.

During one of my listens I was playing Fallout 3. From the 40 minute mark it really seemed to suit the enviroment I was travelling through. I definitely enjoyed what I heard.

46 min - the end was the stand out section of this album IMO. The bassline made its way joyfully through the percs and that lovely sine melody, which is certainly worth a particular mention.

All in all, it served as a pleasant and interesting experience. I personally haven't heard much music similar to it, especially in terms of atmospherics. There were some passages that I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy, but did perhaps find a little too long for my tastes. Otherwise, I can honestly tell you that I have no further criticism.

Very well done, chap. It will be getting more listens from me in the future.

I love the Fallout series. I used to play one and two until wee hours on the weeknight mornings. Normally I just shut the music off on games, but Fallout had something which really added to it.

http://rpgmusic.org/fallout-1-and-2

Excellent stuff, really - or at least some of my favorites. Regardless, I should take it as a compliment that my own tune found its way in the franchise. Even if it's only for one person.

I really tried to focus on the atmospherics a lot and am glad that translated. The sign wave you mentioned is the same Combinator (I think) in Reason which lead the 33 min melody and had the extended portamento sound, prior to that.

Regardless, thanks for the feedback and the kind words. If anything, it's been a learning experience requiring herculean organizational skills I didn't think myself capable of.

I forgot to remark on how tidy it felt. Very well structured!

Normally I'd never turn off music in games, but I've spent so many hours on Fallout 3 that it doesn't hurt to go without it. I haven't played the first two games, but I will definitely check out the link you gave me.
