-- CBR vs. VBR

Well not that I download illegal music (I buy all my CDs) but yeah when I look for promos for sale via catalog number of unreleased songs like some of Chicane's material I always come across rip sites that have ripped them to VBR yet when I come across these sites with official released material they're upload in 320kbps or flac, just don't understand why they favour VBR for promos.
Beats me. Probably they don't see any reason to have 320 CBR since it sometimes is considered to be an elitist bullshit thing.
Me and a friend have been trying to track down a CD-R for some years now: http://www.discogs.com/Dido-Sand-In.../release/321320. There is no evidence that this actually exists as a CD-R except some samples that surfaced the net a long time ago which originated from a CD.
Kind of a holy grail of ours, to have this EP in FLAC.
