You mean "Luigi the pizza baker"? Sure, I'll re-up when I get home from work.

Apart from that, Minimal =

that babicz remix is about as minimal as a fat broad at an all you can eat buffet.

what's even more amazing is that no matter how bad a track is, there's always at least 1 youtube comment from a person who thinks its the greatest thing ever.

Clicky wobbly minimal micro house / "trance" = ear rape.

Posted by Lomeli on Dec-30-2010 06:35:

Everything has some good shit.

Except gabber/hardcore. I haven't found one track that I like.

Trance is a great genre. It's a shame that the industry likes to lump trance into one genre, I mean j00f doesn't belong in the same breath as DJ Sammy.

/doesn't listen to trance these days

I still buy ASOT and Schulz's mix cd every year even though I haven't listened to their radio show in years.

It is limited.

I like crazy transformer dubstep, and I like deadmau5, and I'm not a big fan of Drum 'n' Bass.

Minimal Wobblegab Double Dub Trip Step, however - that's sublime. It's just hard to beat match between records with the varying time signatures.

No, DnB is awesome.

You know what is crap? Tech-House

DJ's are obsolete in this day and age, when anyone can easily create a decent mix thanks to today's technology. Because of that, I really think that producers deserve a lot more recognition than what they do now.

I think the following are "over-rated", or at least, I really don't get the hype.

Boards Of Canada
Selected Ambient Works II
Gas - Gas
Adam F - Colours
Kode9
UNKLE
Pinch
Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions

I'm probably gonna get my ass handed to me, but I've never understood the magic behind Theo Parrish's productions either. I can see why some like him, but from the talk I've heard in some other threads, he's very highly regarded.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Oct-11-2011 07:08:

i just don't get the hype with plastikman.
i've seen hawtin 4 times now - twice as richie and twice as plastikman
his dj sets blew the plastikman sets out of the water for me, no contest.

most clubbers are douchebags

edm fans are a bunch of vain judgmental hypocrites in general, more obsessed with coolness and trendwhoring than pop fans tend to be

the costs involved with all the traveling and entry fees and drinks and shit every weekend, are a bit ridiculous and I don't see how all these young people manage to afford the lifestyle without selling coke or something

edit: lost tribe - gamemaster is fucking annoying and that vocal is stupid, it would be alright without it, actually most of the female vocals even in the nostalgia era, kinda suck

Yeah, I've heard some random snippets of Parrish's stuff here and there, and his productions aren't my thing either. Way too stripped down and raw. His DJ sets are interesting with how they combine disco, classic house, deep house, funk, jazz... but don't really have any sort of logical progression and he's not much for mixing.

Some of my unpopular opinions (dons the flame-retardant suit):

-Mord Fustang is a great producer
-Lately I really enjoy "brogressive" house - Avicii, Mark Knight, Arno Cost, Hardwell, et al.
-Above and Beyond are a lot of fun to watch live
-Trance has been slowly improving this past year from the nadir of the last 5 years
-Dub techno sounds awesome for 10 minutes or so, but listening to a whole set of it is extremely boring
-My Bloody Valentine is really overrated
-So is Autechre
-New Order >>> Joy Division
-2-step garage >>> dubstep
-For all the hype minimal got a few years ago, there are very few songs that will be remembered as classics, even a few years down the line (I can think of only a few off the top of my head - Ame-Rej, Dubfire-Ribcage, Villalobos-Dexter)
-SUNN (O)))))))) I don't understand either, is it supposed to be ironic? A bunch of dudes standing around dressed like druids holding a single note on the guitar for 5 minutes? Whaaa?
-I don't understand how people can listen to noisemusic i.e. Merzbow, Masonna... apart from "lol Japan is craaaaazy"
-A lot of early Chicago house music is catchy, but sounds very dated, especially in terms of corny vocals
-Just because a producer is from Detroit doesn't automatically make their music good
-Just because a producer is black doesn't make their music authentic
-EDM is one of the most ethnically diverse styles of music

How is that opinion "unpopular?"

Posted by Chimney on Oct-12-2011 17:35:

I would like to point out the album "Wicker & Steel" by Perc. Both Resident Advisor and even The Guardian regarded it as some holy grail of techno. It was indeed a good album, but the hype around it was immense.

And I think that the Holden remix of "The Sky Was Pink" is probably the most overrated track of all time. The original had a certain beauty. Holden basically stole the soul out of the track and transformed it into a better minimalistic version of a tech-house record.

Yeah, I never enjoyed that track at the time. I listened to it quite recently thinking that maybe older ears would appreciate it, but I still don't think it's special at all.

Yea his productions just sound sloppy in some cases. I think people graviate towards him in an era where everything is very tight. He's loosey goosey with the controls.

I dont really have a desire to see him dj. I've watched him on youtube and it looked obnoxious in most cases.

It mind boggles me when people compare fodder like this...

to stuff like this...

and the adjective they come up with for the latter is "sloppy".
