For me, its always been Trance/Dance/Electronic from the beginning..

I remember listening to things like Herbie Hancock - Rockit, in the 80s, trying to breakdance in 3rd grade (LOL), then listening to groups like New Order, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode, then things like KLF and SNAP (when Mtv played dance music in the early 90s)

(I also listened to Metal/Alt Rock/Indie/Emo/80s at the same time)

I really got into it around 95' when the Todd Terry Remix of 'Missing' from Everything But the Girl came out.

Of course - it is House, but remember - Trance only existed in Germany, Israel, and India back then.

That led into Faithless, Chicane, Sasha, PvD, Tiesto, etc, etc...

The Spice Girls, dont laugh, their first 2 albums is the REAL pop at its best. And can put aift at me at times. Then I discovered dance music, I didn't have a clue what kind of dance music there was, and then somehow stumbled upon trance in the napster days I remember d/loading:

Rank 1 - Airwave
Paul Van Dyk - Tell Me Why
DJ Tatana - End of Time
Liquid Child - Return to Atlantis (Ferry Corsten remix)
Trance Allstars - Ready to Flow (ATB mix)
Sash - Just Around the Hill
Quake - Angel

mmm... tool and ratm..

actually I used to listen to everything, like shit on the radio etc. but what would you expect from a 13 yr old??? Every kid below 14 I reckon doesn't have their own personality and behaviour etc. laid out properly and they don't really *know* what they like. I was spoon fed by the radio and I don't know how I "liked" the music, it was popular and everyone else liked it.

but I was on a bus going to the snow when I was 14 and a friend had a tape with some dance on it. I liked it, and one of my best friends (6 yrs older) + his mate (2 yrs older) had some Reactivate & platipus cds. I slowly moved away from mainstream/euro dance to trance. Kicked it all off with Oakenfold & Chicane when I was 15...ooh man that was the best move I ever made..

I still listen to a lot of other stuff (no pop, BLEH ) but some rock and other shit like Pink Floyd, chemical bros etc. what other people said.

Although I don't understand how so many people came into the light from hip hop/rap? Most hh rap people I know hate trance and "will nevah lishen to that crap moite".
But good move guys!!!

alternative (I still love Our Lady Peace), and, how this shames me, top 40's pop on the radio.

on a side note, I haven't listened to the radio in over a year
