How is that even a facepalm? I'm not comparing Deadmau5 to Bach's level of talent if that's what you're saying. I'm just saying to call someone obviously talented untalented is ridiculous.

You really don't know the difference between an opinion and a fact, do you?

This is absolutely pointless.

How is talent an opinion? If someone can do six backflips they're talented even if you don't think it's impressive...

How is talent a fact either? How do you prove someone is talented?

There is no doubt the guy can mix a track well and understands how club music works, but that doesn't make someone talented.

...so, in other words, he's talented at mixing and producing club music.

.....

I think, what he was trying to imply, was what does the adjective 'talented' exactly mean? One's perspective of talented can vary between each individual. For example, an artist who works with paintings might think Van Gogh is talented, but not find Bach or a professional soccer player talented.

Well, he is a talented sound engineer. Whether he's actually a talented music writer seems to be the one everyone gets into debates over. I've noticed the broader range of electronic music one has listened to, the less musically talented they feel deadmau5 is (or attempts to be). That's just an opinion based on objective observation.

I listen to everything from deep house to dubstep and he's still one of my favourite artists.

Being a favourite has nothing to do with being talented. You are still mixing opinions with facts.

Late to the party, but HOW could you not think this was going to start a flame war? Really, guys?

That said, Deadmau5 and Daft Punk kind of got me into electronic, so I'm a little biased. I can definitely agree that he's a great sound engineer and not a great composer, but a lot of times I think his sound engineering kind of makes us for it. On the other hand, I've never had the intense hatred for the fart bass that everyone else seems to have. I still think most of his dubstep sucks, though.

So...you listen to house, techno and dubstep? How diverse of you!

Arguing with Deadmau5 fans is like arguing with special ed kids.

And by preemptively wanting to hate something, I mean it's just like people who hate Apple products.

You can't "hate" them because they're good products, if you like Android phones it's impossible for you to HATE iPhones because they're way too similar. You can prefer one over the other but you can't hate it. The only reason people "hate" iPhones is the same reason people "hate" Deadmau5.

They want to hate them because they're popular, and they get some kind of personal satisfaction out of being the "cool indie kids who don't listen to popular music." It's no different than the hipsters that refuse to listen to anything on the radio because they're "sellouts."

If you don't like electro or progressive house then you won't like Deadmau5 and that's fine, but not liking a genre of music doesn't give you the right to act like the producer is horrible, untalented and rapes kittens, like some people on here do.

If you don't like him, that's your prerogative, but to ask people not to talk about him on a music discussion forum is ridiculous.

The iPhone surely is a revolutionary product and has all the features I crave for in a phone, if I only had the money, I'd personally grab one right away. I do not however have some personal conquest to attain coolness through some arrogant Indie kid image, as you stated in your iPhone analogy, (by hating something to suck up to the TA bandwagon). Even if you sent me a sample of a deadmau5 tune and renamed it with a different artist, it would recieve the same censure, so your iPhone analogy can get fucked.

My criticism is based purely on honesty and experience based on what my ears have absorbed for the past 10 years through exposure to electronic dance music. Using Bach as a comparison however, is the equivalent of comparing a grand piano to a dirty block of wood. I have lived to watch the decay of various genres throughout the EDM spectrum like many others here; most producers have gained their fame, the other passionate portion are still crawling through the muddy battlefield with one arm.

The funny thing is, when I know I could almost imitate his sound through cracked software in at least an hour, this is when I can safely confirm that he is the McDonalds of electro-house music. I have heard better. Apparently my ears tell me that, not my ego.

What does it mean the word talant for you? Being technically good? Only this?

Posted by djnitride on Dec-11-2010 18:19:

Sure deadmau5 may know how to make catchy tunes and may be a good producer technically.

Regardless of that point, the stuff he is putting out there is not very interesting, and if you think he "innovated" at all, he stopped that a long time ago.

All I am saying is this guy does not deserve so many threads on here... Its like fucking Tiesto threads on the now dead Trance.nu.....
