my best friend & my cousin are both engaged now so there's future-weddings to look forward to. Just need someone to wear a dress and accompany me but an invite to stu's means that Acton is even more likely to volunteer for the job.

LOL, I was in a relationship with my girlfriend for 10 years before getting engaged, so friends started calling me Frodo after the 7th year or so.

Stu has obviously never taken a sales class before. Always be closing. You got engaged ten years ago? Well, for purposes of conversation, you got engaged last week. Seven days ago. You tell that to everyone. Seven days.

Gifts, man. Get showered with love. Get showered with booze. Get showered with more. I spit wisdom when I drink.

I'm drinking right now.

So whose the bird?

I've never understood these type of long open ended engagements. In my mind when you are ready to get married in the coming year you get engaged. It be like making a restaurant reservation for 5-10 years or maybe never. Can that really be considered a reservation? To me its more like here is an unofficial wedding ring and we'll get around to ceremony and paperwork later. If you don't believe in marriage thats fine but playing it half way seems a little hypocritical.

Well, good thing Stu is a grown-ass man and he can do what he wants, igk.

You know?

Sure, but the other side to that argument is "What's the rush?"

I asked her to marry me, and she said yes. It's a sign of commitment. The wedding itself is nothing more than a ceremony, IMO. It makes no difference whatsoever to being committed to each other.

I like to think of myself as a grown ass-man.

I was commenting on my irritation with the general trend of stretching the engagement out so long it loses its original meaning. Your explanation of your situation makes sense. Its fine by me if your not in a rush to get married. Not as if you need my blessing.

The original meaning is commitment though. Five years, ten years, it doesn't (or shouldn't) make a difference.

Stop being old fashioned
