Special mention to TyDi on the effects section and to Sander van Doorn for the unique atmospheres that his tracks have.

congrats, you've managed to pigeonhole every genre!

Haven't heard too much of Robert and I'm a bit ashamed to put it out there but what I've heard is awesome. Also I'm quite a fan of Eelke, great stuff.

being not very specific, i'd have to precise Wolfgang Gartner as Electro House and instead of Eric Prydz Cirez D but i thought it was self explanatory.

trentemoller and gui boratto..

what strikes me with them is that..they manage to create a certain type of mood or vibe to their music.

Posted by theterran on Jan-11-2011 02:18:

I really enjoy pretty much anything Above and Beyond does. They seem to be getting better as time goes along too.

Also really digging Ocean Lab atm.

As for individual productions *shrug* I find group productions to be of better quality than any single person. 2 heads are better than one and all that good stuff.

I'm quasi pissed off at infected mushroom because they've deviated so much from their roots and seem to have wandered into the realm of pop...Granted vicious delicious was a good album, their current one just sounds like rock with some psy influence rather than just psy.

They need to get back to that B.P. Empire sound. (Could tell that that album was an asston of work though, and they probably don't have the time to do that kinda stuff now that they're famous :P)

Skrillex on the other hand is a badass and I look forward to seeing where he goes. His in for the kill remix was technically brilliant (amazing ass vocal chopping)and very crisp imo. Couldn't even listen to the original La Roux version because it oozed so much poppy BS... but he, made it awesome. The sounds used whether he made them himself or not were also awesome.

Well, Above & Beyond and Oceanlab are the same guys (with Justine Suissa added, in Oceanlab). Back in the day they really lifted the bar on a technical level. You can tell those three care about sound quality! I'll have to check out some of their newer productions...

Posted by DJ RANN on Jan-11-2011 03:10:

Fuck, Storyteller - Chris Reece/Daniel Portman/Leventina/EDX/Dinka/Passenger 10/Rino Cabrera are all the same person?

It's like you just told me santa doesn't exist or the thunderbirds aren't real people.

So for me it's all of them (or him), Jaytech, Gui Borrato, Gartner, Christian Smith, Dousk, and Proff.

Oh and Prydas recent offerings have been scary good.

BT is more skilled than anyone mentioned in this thread

Ah! Didn't know this. Most of the stuff I've seen shows "Above and Beyond Presenting : Ocean Lab".

Cheers

Discogs disagrees somewhat...

Chris Reece is actually 2 people, one of whom (Christian Hirt) is also Passenger 10, Leventina and the producer behind Dinka, but Daniel Portman, EDX and Rino Cabrera are all completely different people - Portman and Cabrera do work with Hirt and some others as Helvetic Nerds though.

Then I disagree with Discogs and have my reasons to :-).

He was Six4Eight but quit working under that alias when he got fed up with trance :-)

Posted by Evolve140 on Jan-11-2011 10:30:

Good times. Yeah, I wouldn't even know what qualifies as trance these days. I honestly only even listen to DJ sets from my friends ( who happen to rock at what they do ), and have been otherwise completely out of the loop engrossed in my own productions. It's good and bad, I suppose.

I really respect the work of SvD, I think he homes in on a pretty nice sound of his own. To show you how out of the loop I am, the last track by Martin Roth I really really liked was his "Nustyle" track. But shit I'm out of the loop.

That's what I thought as well when I looked it up, but if you go and have a look at the composer credits for some of their tracks you'll see Christian Hirt does in fact have a hand in all of it:

http://www.discogs.com/Daniel-Portm...release/1842173

http://www.discogs.com/EDX-Hoover/release/2290681

http://www.discogs.com/EDX-Shy-Shy/release/1845642

None of the Rino Cabrera releases have any credits but the fact that he's collaborating with and being remixed by Daniel Portman makes it quite possible that mr Hirt does some of his work as well:

http://www.discogs.com/Daniel-Portm...release/1770726

http://www.discogs.com/Rino-Cabrera...release/1641342

That all said, I'm most impressed by Benno de Goeij, Sander van Doorn, Mark Knight & Orjan Nilsen right now.

I forgot R.E.N.O.I.S.E insane talent.
